Lying. When I was in High School, I lied to run away from the troubles in my life. It took meeting anothher liar, to break me of the habit. It took an unlikely person to convnce my dad I wasn't lying.

Homosexuality and Sex Addiction. I am still plagued by temptation, but God is faithful and Christ is my strength. I have been celibate for over a year...Praise God. It is a hard road and I have fallen from time to time, but God doesn't leave me alone. He picks me up and dusts me off. I know that, while I may suffer these temptations my whole life, I am free and I don't have to live in that way anymore.

Many years ago I broke a habit, with God's help, that I had developed almost unconsciously: negative thinking!

I commend all of you on the ability to overcome bad habits.

I think for myself the worst habit I had was not being honest with myself. I continued to believe a whole version of truth about some of the people in my life, standing up for and defending them from time to time, and generally making allowances in my life to make their behavior acceptable. My eyes were opened when I saw the people they really were in a time of my own need. And after much prayer, I have overcome the seesaw behavior of loving them and then not loving them. In a euphemistic way, I cleaned out my emotional closet and removed those people from it who were social terrorists. It was when my loyality for them stopped when they began to have gut check moments, some changed, some didnt. And I am free of the stress they caused in my life and can now concentrate on my purpose.

While I haven't had to deal with any of these listed myself. I was at a NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) meeting and a drug rehab counselor was giving a presentation and she provided what I considered to be two very interesting facts.

    1. Nicotine is the most addictive of all drugs.
    2. Alcohol withdrawal is the most dangerous of all drug withdrawals. Her comparison was that you can die from alcohol withdrawal, but heroin withdrawal is like a bad case of the flu where you want to die.

    My bad habits.

    1. Blaming others for my mistakes. This one I have broken.

2.Procrastination - this one I still trying to find the right time to break. ;)

I am trying to break the habit of "putting myself down" all the time. I have always been terribly introverted, almost to it being a disability in my life. My mother was always putting me down. She didn't like much about me. I was a stutterer as a child.
Then my husband was always putting me down, mentally and physically. I now have people in my life who love me and are always complimenting me. The fact is; I have a hard time knowing how to respond to this kind of attention and feel embarassed by it. All of my brothers and sisters are very outgoing, but I'm still quiet and usually sit back in the shadows. The only time I'm up in front of people is when I sing at church. Believe me, that takes a humongous amount of willpower and I still get so shaky I have to hold on to the pulpit. I pray before I sing, but it hasn't helped. I also cannot speak in front of a group at all. I am petrified and revert back to my stuttering if I try to speak.
People ask me if I've ever sung professionally and can't understand when I tell them that I haven't. Being terribly shy is a stumbling block to many dreams.

I recently gave up coffee as a habit every day. I now only drink it once I awhile. I'm finding I have more energy, and do not feel guilty about it controlling me. (I Cor. 9:27)
