Basing your decision on someone else's past costs will not give you clear guidance on your future costs.

I suggest you ask:

"Will this degree help me accomplish my goals?" (Is the degree in the correct professional area?)

"Can I finish the degree in the time the college claims that I can?"

"Would I be better off sending my credits to an Excelsior University (or the like) and buying my degree?"

"Would I be better off taking junior college classes and then transferring?"

Most Affordable Seminary

BMATS, Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary, is by far the most affordable Baptist Seminary. The cost of the courses are basically the same through their distance program as it is through their on campus program. I have also taken correspondence course through Central Baptist College, and their correspondence classes are about a 1/3 of the cost of the traditional classes. A semester unit at CBC cost $245 on campus, and $80 via correspondence.

A single course at BMATS costs $470. An AA would cost about 9400, and a BA would cost a little more. A MDiv would cost about 12000. I am surprised to hear that someone got a degree from liberty for 4000, as their tuition cost is about three times as much as BMATS. A full time student at Liberty can expect to pay $6,850 per semester, which means an Associates will cost a little over $27,000.

BMATS is fully accredited by the SASC, and is a member of the Association of Theological Schools, so their credits qualify folks to further their education at some of the most prestigious doctoral level seminaries in the country. Any candidate who wishes to attain a DMin or ThD will have to go to some other school, as BMATS does not offer a doctoral program.

 

I failed to mention that I have never completed a biblical or theological degree completely online. I have taken all of my Bible and Theology credits in person. I will be getting an additional Bachelor's in Business Administration through Colorado Christian University, and my cost of attending there will probably be about $13,000. That is, however, will all of my previous coursework satisfying all of the basic business electives. Somebody without any previous coursework should expect to pay about $40,000 for a BA there.

My suggestion to anyone considering attending a private theological school is to start out at the community college for the lower level elective credits. This dramatically cuts costs, and allows a student the ability to broaden his/her ministry scope. I am not so fond of continuously limiting a yound adults world to include only those who agree with them. I would much rather have our young men and women challenged in a secular environment to properly qualify them as warriors when they finally engage in ministry.

 

I'm a graduate of LU and I can tell you it does not cost $6850 a semester to do it via DLP. On campus (which I was) cost more due to room/board etc. Online (which I took a few classes) cost around $250 an hour for undergrad work. This means if you did 15 hours, it would cost $3750 per semester plus books etc. They offer 8 week sessions through DLP, so you can get your degree done fairly quick. Most degrees through DLP are 120 - 128 hours.

BTW, I think the $4000 was a quote for the LBU down south in Louisiana.

This BMATS, I've never heard of, but it sounds like it's worth looking at as well.

I would also strongly recommend those interested in an online BA to look at their local community colleges, some of which offer classes/AA degrees online. I've seen tuition as low as 70 per credit hour.

 

I'm currently a MDiv student at BMATS and love it! The current cost of tuition is $90 per credit hour. The website is www.bmats.edu. I also did my undergrad work with Liberty University's DLP. Loved it! I'm not sure where I'll be doing my doctorate as I'm going into the Army Chaplaincy.:jesus:

Most of my MDiv was much cheaper than than most of the folks here are sying theirs cost them.
