Deadman, that works for me too!
I would hope anyone that has the Holy Spirit in them would have a heart for the lost, those that are dying everyday and going to hell. It should break our heart.

Sample, you should consistently SHOW Christ to others in your life and attitudes and words. It is the kindness of God which wins souls to repentance (Romans 2). Actions speak far louder than words. If we are but the 'suit of clothes that Jesus wears' or the glove in which His hand works then we don't have to worry about consciously trying to 'win' others. Jesus will invite them through us. Our job is to know the Bible and our Lord well enough to be able to answer the questions when they are asked.

SAMPLEWOW, try this one:

Eze 3:18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

He that winneth souls for the eternal purposes of God is indeed wise, and there is only one who has finished that task, His name is Jesus Christ, of whom Paul says:

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Timothy 1:17

Proverbs 24:11-12
11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;
12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

Well, deadman, so you were there ? you were one of the eleven disciples ? wow ! </font>
What did the Lord say?
Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The Lord commanded them to go, and teach us to do the same things He commanded them to do.

John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments."

(Though we call this next verse the great commission, this is presented in God's words as a command from Christ to His followers.)

Matthew 28:19 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."

(Mark phrased it differently, but it is the same command.)

Mark 16:16 "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

(The importance of it is shown here. If you love Christ, you will "feed His sheep." If you look at the parable of the lost sheep, you find that He wants you to go out and seek out that wandering, lost one.)

John 21:16-17 "He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, "Feed my sheep." He saith unto him the third time, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things, thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep."

1 John 2:3 "And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments."

1 John 2:4 "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."

1 John 5:2 - By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

Matthew 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

How can you show love to a neighbor and NOT tell them that Christ is the Savior?

Then there is example.
Look at Christ's ministry and its focus.
Look at the focus of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter and Paul in their writing and in their lives.

Substantiated, if you will, by John in 1 John 5:16, like so:

If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

All sin leads to death, or sorrow, whether it is committed by those already professing belief in Christ, or those considered to be 'lost souls'.

The Scriptures above, both yours and mine, refer to those who are 'brethren' in the Lord, particularly those who know each other as brethren.

I believe the premise of the original question is the winning others to Christ, meaning those that 'need to be saved' ?

Right you are. His command was to the eleven disciples, and my question was: was deadman one of the eleven ? [IMG]

[IMG] </font>
So if Jesus commanded the disciples to go, teach all nations, baptize, and teach them to observe all things He commanded them to do... what did He command them to do? Go, teach all nations, baptize, teach them to observe all things He commanded them to do... What does it matter if he was one of the 11 disciples?

James,

the question, originally, was 'WHY should I consistently seek to win others to Christ? Please use Scripture'.

I am merely pointing out that the answer was not in contextual agreement with the answer. Christ was not speaking to future believers, he was speaking to those who were in front of him, who were his original disciples, also called apostles.

He was not even speaking to the church.

He was speaking to the foundations of the church, with him as the cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20).

They, not churches, not church members, are to teach, to make disciples (learners, students), and they made a good job of it, too, just as the one and only , true, incontestable, inimitable, soul-winner is Jesus Christ, and He made a good job of it, as well.

He saved all that His Father had given to Him already, He already entered into the holy of holies, once for all, bearing His own blood, having obtained eternal redemption for us all.

Pinoy -

Again - tell me how you can obey the greatest commandment and NOT tell them about Christ.

Brother pinoybaptist,

Jesus said :

KJV Luke 22:19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

Therefore, according to the Scriptures, communion was given only for the apostles and disciples with Him in the flesh.

KJV John 13:5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded...

14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

Same as above.

KJV Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Same as above.

So, my brother, how do we justify these practices (communion, foot washing and water baptism) in the Churches today since they were given only to the apostles and disciples who knew Him in the flesh?

So Pinoybaptist, am I understand you to be saying that the great commission does not apply to us today?

Never did. Not to the church. The 'great commission', if there is such a thing, was for the apostles, and through them, to those who are called into the ministry.

Read Paul and Peter's letters slowly, and you will see that most of the time they speak in terms of you, us, we, you.

And the 'great commission' is to preach and teach a gospel of finished, not possible, salvation, the purpose of the gospel is to bring life and immortality to light (for those who already possessed such light and immortality), to teach the whole counsel of God, for the edification of the saints.

No way. If you're called into the ministry, the command passes on to you. The command to make disciples, to teach them the things Christ taught, to teach them to observe all things whatsoever Christ has taught.

But, nowhere does the Bible say that gospel preaching is for the purpose of winning souls to Christ, that is man's teaching.

Gospel preaching is to result in pointing the saved to the Savior.
