I do not know about the other person, but I am as serious as a heart attack... I am tired of the new age church and it's merchandising of the saints.

Anyone who believes that the Narnia movie is biblical is being deceived.

So am I Boanerges. We are definitely in the last days. Instead of church taking the Gospel to the world, the world is bringing their "gospel" into the church.

ouch . . . you have coined it exactly - sadly, the conscience of many are now seared because of the "gospel" of the world.

Amen eloidalmanutha!! 1 Timothy 4:2 says it all:

Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; (1 Timothy 4:2)

BTW--how do you pronounce your name????

    God bless,
    Linda

You two are off the wall! A pretend story based on Christian theology encourages kids to be obedient, truthful, faithful in friendships, to avoid temptation and be willing to fight evil and you are talking about those who appreciate that calling them hypocrites with seared consciences.

I for one take deep offense to that. A lack of paranoia and a little education do not make one a hypocrite or cause a seared conscience.

I think you owe a lot of people here an apology for those remarks.

No one that I have seen is promoting or defending any gospel of the world. They, and I, are simply recognizing and appreciating a very moralistic tale which children and adults have appreciated for over fifty years now. The Narnia series helped my children understand more about the idea of obedience to Christ at any expense. Not many children's books can do that. The Narnia books did.

    Get a grip.

Narnia got €35 of our money yesterday afternoon (7 of us) and to me it was money well spent. I wouldn't try and dig deep theology out of it, but it was a lovely film with a lovely moral message.

    ...good film, huh? c4K....

I did notice a lot of comparisons between the children, especially Edmund and the Lord's disciples. I think that C.S. Lewis meant that to come across. For instance, when the Lion was walking along, he enjoyed the company of the girls, then he sent them away telling them that this was something that he alone must do.

There were a lot of little things like that that reminded me of gospel. I wasn't trying to see it--it just reminded me of it when it happened.

The dali lama has a lovely moral message as well. Maybe everyone should take their families to see him speak.

</font>[/QUOTE]Since the scriptures tell us that our "goodness" is like filthy rags before God, I find the moral message argument in general to be quite shaky.

If this was another secular movie, I would not be discussing it.Once the herd started to promote it as such, the Bible comes out and it is time to test the spirits. It fell flat on it's face. Another Jesus (Aslan) and another Gospel (Narnia, mythical creatures, etc, etc, etc.)

If Narnia were claiming to present the Gospel you would be right. However it doesn't. You are wrong.

Again, it EXPLORES certain aspects of the Christian faith in the mileau of a story which promotes obedience, morality, and encourages in the struggle against evil.

I'm curious. Have you read the book OR seen the movie?

I have th complete C.S. Lewish collection sitting right in from of me as it type.Do you want to do an open book quiz?

Even Disney realized that some of the stuff in the book might be offensive on the big screen, so they changed it in the movie. Hows that as an example of those with little discernment, discerning? How can the layman recognize the problem, when the Pastors can't? Go figure.

what Disney did and does is certainly not Lewis' fault! Don't blame him for that. And don't blame him for the fact that churches are doing what they are doing.

I haven't seen the movie. I can't judge it. But I know Lewis' works and I know who he was -- a brother in Christ.

By the way, having the books in front of you is NOT the same as reading them...my students learned that I knew the difference in that comment, too.... :D
