Dave, I've found the hard way that debates aren't the way to go. If someone cannot see the Scriptures placed right in front of them, it's time to move on.
It's one thing to explain why I believe something from the Bible, it's quite another to try and convince someone who resists it.

The problem, Dave, is that everyone believes they are correct and most are unwilling to engage Scripture if it challenges their tradition. They come to forums like this looking for an echo chamber and to defend their position rather than to truly engage other Christians in a Christ-like manner. That is what makes the board so difficult to tolerate at times.

Actually @JonC I used to not be a calvinist. But it was BECAUSE of the Scriptures I changed my viewpoint.

Me too! Prior to being a Calvinist I would have classified myself as holding to "Reformation Arminianism". Before that, I'm not sure as my theology was not so defined. But I realized the truth of Calvinism, which I appreciate to this day, and moved on from what was not true.

@JonC Calvinism, or more correctly the Synod of Dort, is all throughout Scripture. It is unavoidable.

The Synod of Dort? That infants are saved because of their parents? What verse would that be?

@JonC sorry, I should have clarified I was talking about the 5 points. They actually came from the Synod of Dort as we currently articulate them.
