Our country should withdraw from the U.N. If I were president, that would be my first act.

    I would:
    * Give the U.N. 30 days to clear out of any building they occupy on United States soil.
    * If after 30 days they haven't cleared out, I would send the Marine Corps to help them pack & escort them out of the country.

Anytime we have ever been at war, when they were involved, we have never won. Korea was a draw & Vietnam was considered a loss.

I think it's important to dialogue with other countries, and have a body that can facilitate discussion.

Having said that, the UN ain't it. It is patently anti-American, and for that matter, anti-Semitic as well.

They are the wellspring of genius: such as putting Sudan on the Human Rights committee, and going into battle situations wearing powder blue helmets.[IMG]

In short...yup, let's git rid of 'em, and find another body that we can work with, that doesn't have an innate hatred of us from the get-go, and that isn't interested in usurping the sovereignty of the United States.

I have a great deal of respect for the efforts of the United Nations to attempt to bring our world together. The results aren't always there but I give it an A for effort.

If you like rape squads, and folks who sell relief efforts for profit, then the U.N. is for you. If you like to make billions of $$ off sanctioned countries, then the U.N. is for you. If you have disdain for Israel, but love the Chinese human rights violators so much you give them veto power, the U.N. is your place.

Everywhere they go, they make the situation worse.

I have no idea how anyone can support this unjust, totally corrupt, sorry excuse for a world organization by overlooking these facts.

I served under the UN twice in war. At that time, they served well. There are many problems with the world to-day and one organization cannot be all to all peoples within the UN body, try as they may.

Remember, the USA served under the UN in Korea too. They had no argument then.

It is a tough roll, and glad I am not asked to do their job. In Korea the biggest problem we had was with a US President when he fired MacArthur! We almost saw the war effort collapse by both other UN troops and the USA troops. It was a despised move by all. So, in that case it wasn't the UN, but US presidential interference. Could it be that some US citizens don't like answering to a higher body than a problem with the UN itself?

    Cheers,

    Jim

First, we will absolutely not answer to the UN. Aside from that the UN is proven to be corrupt at every turn. When the organizations let in as members countries like China and terrorist supporting nations it is evil and should be disbanded. The oil for food program is a prime example of its corruption. Its primary agenda is socialist marxist one world government. MacArthur has nothing to do with this.

The UN is a corrupt and anti-American organization of wannabes who lust for the ability to gather and redistribute the material resources of its stronger nations. Treaties of mutual benefit are a better way to work out differences among nations.

The USA did not serve "under" the UN in Korea. The USA did lead a voluntary group of nations to enforce UN resolutions but our chain of command did not lead to the UN. We also, as usual, carried the heaviest load.

The USA is a sovereign nation and we do not answer to the UN and, no, we don't and won't answer to any "higher body" as there is none. It is another socialist dream to have a world government to which the USA would answer.

General MacArthur, a great leader and whether right or wrong, learned a painful lesson that our Commander in Chief is the President. That's another story but I note that we don't have problems with military coups in the USA because the chain of command is very clear.

As any organization, the UN has some problems. However, it is the best institution we have to insure nations work together for world peace. It is needed, and we must be a part of it. The League of Nations failed largely due to the U.S. not being part of it.

As with some organizations, the UN is corrupt and inept.

The best institution we have to promote world peace is our military. It is the bite behind the teeth behind the warning behind the talking behind the diplomacy. It is the power of the sword that is respected by those who respect nothing else.

We have made treaties with other sovereign nations since our beginning. Let them define our friends and how we will deal with them. Let our declarations define how we will deal with our enemies. Let no other "higher" body define either.

    Agreed.

See this link for some facts:

    http://www.getusout.net/

It's sickening. Yep, I'll go help them pack and then the building which is deteriorating and full of rats (the 2 legged kind) should be imploded and build something worthwhile in its place.

I still say they will end up moving one day to our big state of the art embassy we are building (with our tax dollars) in Baghdad (maybe after the Rapture).

    U.N. Peacekeeping failures.
    • 'Deterrence by Presence' is No Deterrence at All -- [Global Policy Forum] ( April 17, 2002)The Dutch report on Srebrenica sends a warning that weak and inefficient peacekeeping missions will lose against the “peace-breakers who us[e] force freely and criminally.”
    • Beasts in Blue Berets -- What happens when the planetary police run amok and become the agents of bloodshed?
    • Why UN can't keep peace -- A UN commission put out an honest report last week on how the UN can do a better job at peacekeeping. It would be comforting to think the report will prompt such changes. The reality is that probably won't happen because of the UN's organizational culture, the way its members use it, and the nature of today's conflicts.
    • French Insist Britain Must Share Blame For Srebrenica -- [Global Policy Forum] (November 30, 2001) The French parliamentary inquiry into the fall of the UN “safe-area” in Bosnia harshly criticized the UN Security Council for "undertaking commitments they did not respect because they did not equip themselves with the means."
    • In Angola, UN Peacekeeping Sounds 'Retreat' -- (March 20, 1999) Latest withdrawal in Angola reflects dwindling hope and support for global intervention. The UN's peacekeeping process and the way the United States influence it. An analysis of the past and an outlook on the future.
    • Peacekeeping Is No Longer about Helping 'Them' but 'Us' -- [Global Policy Forum] (July 5, 2002) The peacekeeping failures in Rwanda or Bosnia showed the need for direct involvement of major military powers. The “war on terrorism” has made UN peacekeeping a convenient tool in western foreign policies. The future of peacekeeping will depend on reconciling past experiences and new needs.
    • Peacekeeping Lesson? -- Peacekeeping on the cheap is a recipe for failure. Sierra Leone is the latest case in point, as its fragile peace accord unravels unhindered by international peacekeeping efforts. The resumption of hostilities between government and rebel forces in May - in which rebels took hundreds of UN peacekeepers prisoner - was hardly a surprise. It was clear from the moment the peace agreement was signed last July that the fragile accord would need a strong peacekeeping presence to enforce it.
    • Peacekeeping's Unsavory Side -- [Global Policy Forum] (June 10, 2003) A UNIFEM report finds that instances of rape and human trafficking “often coexist alongside peacekeeping operations.” Barbara Crossette reports on the individuals who expose bad behavior among UN peacekeepers and the populations under their protection.
    • The End of U.N. Peacekeeping -- (June 12, 2000) Sierra Leone has struck yet another blow against U.N. peacekeeping. America's U.N. ambassador, Richard Holbrooke, naturally argues that Sierra Leone "is not a metaphor for U.N. peacekeeping." But how could it be otherwise?
    • The Failures of the Current Approach to Peace Operations -- The responsibilities of United Nations' peace operations have greatly expanded and become much more complex since the end of the Cold War, yet the resources allocated and the support necessary to satisfy those responsibilities has not expanded with the need.
    • The world ignores genocide in Sudan -- With a new wave of genocide building in Sudan hard on the heels of the tenth anniversary of Rwanda — which brought pious expressions of regret that more wasn't done to stop the killing at the time — we are about to prove ourselves perfectly ready to accept "again."
    • U.N. Troops Buy Sex From Teen Refugees -- United Nations peacekeeping troops are sexually exploiting teenage rape victims fleeing war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to an investigation by the The Independent newspaper of London.
    • UN Peacekeepers Criticized -- (December 22, 2002) Over the past two years, UN peacekeepers have been involved in numerous sex scandals. Recently, in Eritrea where a third of adults are HIV positive, a UNMEE peacekeeper was involved in making pornographic videos of local people.
    • UN Peacekeepers Criticized -- "These people call themselves peacekeepers, when in fact all they want is a long holiday and a chance to fool around with our women. They did not respect our country, our culture or our people."

    Continued...

    • UN Says Its Peacekeepers are Spreading AIDS -- (July 7, 2000) Alarmed with the disturbing phenomenon, the US proposed a UN Security Council draft resolution that calls the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations to educate all peacekeepers to halt the proliferation of HIV.
    • UN Takes Action Against Peacekeepers' Misconduct -- [Global Policy Forum] (March 18, 2002] In reaction to the accusation against the peacekeepers in the UN mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) for sexual abuse and exploitation of refugees, UNAMSIL trains its troops on women and children rights and enforces zero-tolerance against sexual misconduct.
    • UN Whistleblower Says Fired for Sex Claims -- [Global Policy Forum] (June 26, 2002)Media and NGO reports have blamed for years UN and NATO peacekeepers on the Balkans to be contributors to flourishing prostitution, sex slavery, and trafficking of women. Peacekeepers now impede UN human rights office’s own attempts to investigate the allegations.
    • US Blamed for Peacekeeping Failures -- (August 31, 2000) “US is to blame”—such was the message of Kofi Annan in his interview with Time magazine. Even though the Secretary General did not explicitly criticize the Clinton administration, his words were more than direct when he talked about the US as a country that “will not accept a single casualty.”
    • When Peacekeepers Turn Into Troublemakers -- Three years ago in Cambodia, 170 people wrote a letter to the Secretary General to complain about the behavior of peacekeepers. The harassment of women, the letter said, "occurs regularly in public restaurants, hotels and bars, banks, markets and shops."

And in the spirit of fairness, here are the U.N. peacekeeping successes.
    • Blue Man Group -- [Global Policy Forum] (August 27, 2003) Notable UN peacekeeping failures in Somalia, Bosnia and Rwanda overshadow several peacekeeping success stories. The UN receives little attention for its work in hotspots such as Cyprus and Namibia because “the successes are by definition quiet.”
    • Peacekeeping: The US, the UN, and Regional Players -- (October 18, 2000) C. David Welch, Assistant Secretary for International Organization Affairs, sets the record straight on peacekeeping successes and failures, as the US sees them. He also discusses peacekeeping assessment and reform, and if the UN is good, it "will reap an immediate benefit" of nearly $600 million from the US dues for peacekeeping (of which they owe over $1.3 billion).
    • The Kosovo Formula -- [Global Policy Forum](November 23, 2001) As delegates negotiate for the future of Afghanistan, the successful general election in Kosovo is evidence that the combination of UN-led, NATO-policed nation-building effort backed by multilateral aid and patience is workable.

Before the UN, they tried to form a League of Nations, it failed and the Rockefeller dynasty gave the United Nations land to build on. I also think myself, that people don't give such gifts without getting something in return. It was formed to bring the nations and countries together, however I wonder just how many new nations has been formed sense they were established. I don't get the reasoning of they saying they were going to unite these nations, when the truth is, they have divided the nations and countries. We are under their charter, and control and we haven't been able to do what you are suppose to do when you are in war with another country. Any of the wars they have created themselves hasn't had a successful gain.for mankind. Some day even our freedom will be distroyed by that powerful monarch. I would rejoice at their demise if it should ever happen.

This is not your father's UN.

Yeah...we're kind of partial to being a sovereign nation. It's that pesky issue of "liberty."
