I kept waiting for the preacher's wife to take a swan dive off the platform into the front row mosh pit.

Many years ago I visited a Pentecostal church with a friend--a woman evangelist. When they started gyrating, running around, jumping the pews, and praying in gibberish, I looked at the door and wanted to leave. Unfortunately, I had ridden with my friend and was stuck. One woman kept repeating something that sounded like "Ah ditty" over and over and over, and she was VERY loud. I could hear her over all the other noise.

I can feel the Holy Spirit in a great message or in a song. I don't need to act like those people to feel His power. Apparently, the one holding the camera wasn't feeling whatever the others were. I noticed one boy standing and gyrating and looking around like he just wanted to make sure he was doing it right. One boy (I think) just sat there with folded arms, probably wondering what was going on, and others just stood there doing nothing. The few who weren't participating were the most noticeable to me, because they stood out in all that din of excitement caused by emotionalism.

My former pastor (retired now) told us that he went to one of these once. He said he felt a terrible fear for what was going on and had to just sit there and plead the blood. Once was enough for him.

My older brother went to an Assembly of God church one time and said that a woman from the back came down the aisle doing cartwheels and this during the preachers sermon. Someone afterwards told him that things like this was normal in the church. They had the title of "holy rollers" among the community. Is the AoG pentecostal?

Some time ago a woman I worked with was telling me about her church, I think it was a kind of non-denominational church, how that they were searching for a pastor.
They decided on this pastor who was formerly a pentecostal preacher.
They had interviews with him and he seemed to be main stream normal and had abandoned the pentecostal style so to speak.
After he was there about six months he began to gradually get louder and louder in his sermons.
She said it got to the point that his shouting started to scare her kids and he began leaving the pulpit and walking up and down the aisles shouting out his sermon on the people.
Finally the board got concerned and pulled him into a meeting. They asked him, "why are you shouting so much in your sermons"? He replied that this is how you get the Holy Spirit to fall down upon us. They shortly thereafter dismissed him from pastor.

AoG is most definitely pentecostal although some churches tend to be moderate and others radically pentecostal. Almost from the start (about 1909) there was a large split in the denomination over the trinity. Many wished to abandon the trinity in favor of 'oneness' or 'the new issue' otherwise it would be a much larger denomination than it is.

That was what I went to that time I mentioned; I just couldn't think of what it was called.

Ok it is laughable - it is a joke.

But seriously -- how are they getting drawn into it?

Did the Christian church "make them" or "draw them"?

What argument is being made to suggest to church members that they should do such things?

The video in the OP is nothing. Now some churches are doing the Holy Polka -- the song where you "put your right hand in and shake it all about, etc." with the Holy Ghost.

I saw a video of it but can't find it now.

At the 2:00 mark... the dude shouting, "Come on! Release your glory! Release your glory! Healing! Miracles! Healing! Miracles!" just turned my stomach. What does this garbage have to do with God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit??? NOTHING!!! None of this, either in this video, or the others above, have anything to do with the God of the bible. They are all ecstasy and human will... if not demonic activities.

I live in Pentecostal Central. I have been in some churches where stuff like this was considered high church and touching God. The only thing touching in these "services" was the cold finger of the devil's minions. The emotions play a part in worship, but when they are the center point the focus of worship moves from the Godhead and comes to rest upon the experience of the moment.

God can and does heal miraculously. But He doesn't do it on command, and I seriously doubt He would do it as a part of a show. Jesus refused to perform miracles just for the spectacle, just He refused to continue to produce food for the masses who followed Him just to be fed. And yet snake oil salesmen like this ply their trade, hyping up a crowd to get a response. I have seen similar things done in Baptist churches, but much more tame... playing certain songs and touching on certain topics to loosen people up to flocking to the altars, and I could tell within a few minutes if that was the whole point of the service that morning (always Sunday morning as that was the biggest crowd and the biggest effect).

You only get out of worship what you have put into it. You only get out of church what you come expecting. If you have had no worship all week, you won't get much come Sunday. If you come to church not expecting anything to happen, odds are it won't. Stuff like in this video are so far out of the bounds of reality as to be laughable... if it wasn't the name of the Lord being trampled under foot by their activities.

    'Tis sad indeed.

The AOG is definitely not "oneness". The oneness group was kicked out of the AOG in the early 1900s. Today, most AOG churches are not as emotional as showh in the U-TUBE; however, some are. In the 1980's the AOG General Council Meeting warned about such excesses, but some churches still are involved in the excess emotions. The trend in the AOG is to get away from excess emotions.

Like the Baptist, most AOG churches are independent with the organization not directing what is done in the chuches. Also like the Baptists, the organization stays out of the workings within the churches unless the money and/or the attendance drops considerably.

Years ago, my daughter and husband visited an AOG church in our area that was very emotional. The implication from the pulpit was that the more emotional you were, the more you are being blessed by the Holy Spirit. Therefore being emotional was encouaged. That emotional church has since left the AOG and is now independent or with some small denomination.

BTW, my daughter and husband have been in AOG churches all their lives, and they did not buy all that emotion.

Look at the "rebellious" Pentecostal teen in the gray shirt, front row center.
Sitting there calm as can be while all around is chaos:laugh:

No, the AoG is not 'Oneness' by any means but 'Oneness' was a big issue at the start of the denomination and many people left for 'Oneness churches'.

The AoG's in the area in which I live do differ quite a bit in 'worship style' though. One AoG down the street from me teaches that if a person is really a Christian then that person will speak in tongues. None of the other AoG churches in my area teach that. That same church also has a big emphasis on 'word of knowledge' prophecies and being 'slain in the Spirit'. I visited the church once and realized that the pastor was not going to close the service until everyone in the congregation exhibited some 'manifestation of the Spirit'. I left.

I know of one AoG in a nearby town where the pastors wife,as well as other women in the church, shake their heads heads constantly from the moment they enter the sanctuary until the moment they leave the sanctuary. I found it very distracting. They also engage in 'holy laughter'. Haven't been back in a while so I don't know if they are doing 'The Hokey Pokey' or not.

    What a treat for Jesus!

Many years ago, I am familiar with an AOG church that had a pastor that taught that type of false doctrine. The laymen complained to the District Officials, but the District would do nothing because they had no proof and the pastor was well thought of.

Finally, some of the members brought tape recorders in their coats and taped the services. Upon going to the District with proof, the District Officials revoked the pastors papers which prohibed him from preaching in AOG churches. In the AOG, the District Officials control the ordination of ministers. Unless someone objects and has proof, AOG ministers are generally free to preach as they wish. Most well grounded laymen just go to another church instead of being accused of "causing trouble".
