Won't be going. May go to the 2014 convention since I live in the area, as we were discussing in the other thread. So maybe you can explain it to me, is anyone allowed to attend or only 'messengers'?

I don't know this stuff, I'm brand new to SBC and still in the process of learning what the SBC is REALLY about and not what my prior IFB pastors tried to tell me...

anyone can attend - only messengers can vote

Look forward to meeting you there

As my DOM says, Southern Baptists are more independent that Independent Baptists!. We are simply a fellowship of like minded Baptists.

Probably the biggest difference is the way we do missions.
IFB will partially support several missionaries - who must spend 1-4 years on deputation to obtain sufficient support before even going to the field.

SBC missionaries on the other hand technically are employees of the mission board and once accepted are able to go right to the field.
In addition to having to deal with several mission boards, we only deal with two.

Not saying one is better than the other, as both have advantages and disadvantages.

BTW, many SBC churches also support Independent Baptist missionaries as well
Otherwise, there isn't too much difference

    Well that's simple. :)
Then I hope to attend the 2014 conference, Lord willing.
