Ted Haggard is fighting off accusations from a gay prostitute.

From today's edition of The Denver Post.

The leader of one of Colorado's most popular mega-churches, Ted Haggard, said his church would investigate allegations from a male prostitute that Haggard solicited gay sex, 9News reported Wednesday.

    Read it all at http://www.denverpost.com/ci_4588998

He is only accused, so we should wait for the truth to come out.

    Accused, but on what evidence?

It looks like so far, just the word of the accuser. Who knows if there is any substance to it?

KUSA-TV/DT is featuring it pretty highly, and its investigative reporter, Paula Woodward is following up on the story.

Edited to add: I sincerely hope the accusations are not true. While I don't agree with much of what Ted Haggard stands for, many look to him for leadership.

I hope his John Kerry soundbite is heard

Mag Poles and Daisy at 9:26 of the extensive interview I thought it was interesting to hear and actually agree what he had to say about ...John Kerry...I though Haggard was spot on and showed grace after the Richter Scale from he right wing noise machine was at 10 ...when in fact it should have been a 3.

as for the other issue on Haggard's plate ...this is a church issue and the independent board should do its duty...my discernment of his body language was not good...there was something there...he may want to protect family and children...even regardless of guilt or innocence.(imho)

all I know is ..he showed mercy to John Kerry and hope he receives it as well.

One of your better posts . . . and I can agree with it - I pray that his followers are not being led astray . . .

. . . and while I pray that he is innocent, if he is guilty I pray for his family and his church.

If true, it is interesting that Haggard has been one of the most vocal anti-gay voices in the country. Kind of like Jimmy Swaggart preaching against sins of the flesh. I hope he is innocent of a relationship with a prostitute.

Remember this is a guy who is on Bush's speed dial, and President of the Evangelicals. It could very well be character assassination without basis. I pray so.

    Wow

==That is really bad stuff. If it is true, and let's pray it is not, then Haggard has serious problems. If it is not true that Jones guy needs to be charged with slander. Either way this is really, really bad news.

Though I must admit the "timing" of this "revelation" is sure interesting. Notice the following quote from the Gazette (linked by MP)...

"Jones said he didn’t realize who Haggard was until about two years ago when he saw a History Channel program for which Haggard was interviewed."

So he has known who Haggard was for two years and only "now" gets a conscience about hypocrisy? Only now when "there are two major issues on the ballot related to sexuality: Amendment 43, which would define marriage as between a man and woman, and Referendum I, which would give same-sex couples more legal rights". Sounds suspect to me. However even if the timing is political that does not mean Haggard is innocent.

While I am no fan of Haggard, no fan at all, I certainly hope and pray that this is not true.

Simular accusations were being leveled at Paul Crouch. Does anyone know what happened there?

Ok, there seems to be some confusion out there this morning. The Gazette, that I quoted last night, said...

"Jones said he didn’t realize who Haggard was until about two years ago when he saw a History Channel program for which Haggard was interviewed."

    Yet this morning CNN says...

"Jones said he learned Art's identity when he saw him on television four months ago. Jones said he became upset when he learned that Haggard's church supported the proposed state constitutional amendment."

Is this contradiction coming from Jones or is one of the media sources getting it wrong?

KKTV reports Haggard admits to some indiscretions.

The page has a link to raw video of an interview with Associate Senior Pastor Ross Parsley, who reports the admission from Haggard.

    That is scary.

Such hideous evil has no place in ministry.

People can forgive alcoholism. They can forgive porn addiction.

But, adultery alone is devastating to the church. And to add what may have happened to this poor church is just satan working to destroy this ministry.

But, having said that - at some time God steps in and says, "If you won't repent of your private sin - then it will become public."

That should be a wake up call for all Christians.

Oh, brother! He admits to "some indiscretions" and they're meeting to decide whether he will be exonerated? How would one exonerate a pastor who has committed "some indiscretions" with a homosexual prostitute?

"Well, he didn't do A, he only did B," as in "They didn't do anything sexual, but he does admit to being selfish with the remote when they were disputing between the History Channel and TV Land."

This is the Christian version of suicide bombing: destroy yourself and take as many as possible with you.

I cannot even imagine what they must be going through.

Men, if there has ever been a wake up call for NONE of us having that evil in our lives - this should be a wake up call. What this will do to those poor kids is terrible. What it is doing to the church is terrible. And the Church will suffer as well.
