I am totally against abortion...and I'd love to have a candidate that is against it too, however, this is the "real world" and in the "real world" this may NEVER be a possibility. With that said, how can I in good conscious vote for any candidate and not be part of this terrible sin?

When I vote, I just pray that God forgives me for supporting a "baby killer candidate" and if it is possible, to use this person to change their heart and mind set and reverse Roe-vs-Wade. After all, Roe had a change of heart, so why can't the candidate? It seems that this nation would never vote for a candidate that is 100% Christian. Huckabee is an example of the mind-set of the USA. We need a change in politics, but, I don't see it coming. I'm more sure that Jesus will come back before we see a TRUE Christian president.

I'd really like your input on this moral issue, because it eats away at my heart and soul. I know that this government taxes and uses this tax to kill babies, and it ain't right. Still, we need a leader, and we need a senate and congress, so what does a Christian do?

Thanks for your feedback folks. This is more of an issue than the war in Iraq, or torture. I've seen the films where the fetus cries out in pain when it's about to be aborted, and that film has torn my heart for more than 30 years now.

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul

I can't bring myself to vote for a candidate who is pro-choice. I just can't do it. No matter who it is or who ends up being elected president. If it's any consolation, the electoral college elects the president anyway, not the popular vote.

There are other issues to be considered and I think all the issues should be looked at and then vote for the person who you believe will either do the best job, or do the least damage.

I am sorry but this is just a cop out. It gives room to just overlook the slaughter of the unborn by means of the use of a vacume that sucks the child apart limb by limb. What ever else a candidate supports this should be a deal beaker for every Christian.

No, it is an issue to factor into your decision. Using your logic that means you would vote for a Communist who was against abortion if that person were running agains a strong believer in freedom, but was for abortion.

Is it ironic that people who say "vote for the lesser of two evils" don't realize that their sentence parses down to "vote for_____evil_" ?....

Or is there another word for it?

Surely you understand that there are more choices here than just the two you set up.

Perhaps it is determining which person will do the least damage.

Abortion is somewhat of a red herring. If abortion is declared illegal abortions will not stop, but more young women will die from back room abortions. There is evil on all sides of this issue. I am not in favor of abortions, but I am not so simple minded as to believe that just because a person running for office is anti-abortion that means that person will do a good job. Love it or hate it, Roe v Wade, is the most reviewed court ruling in American history. In other words, it has more precedent than any ruling in our history. If the justices that Bush appointed were telling the truth when they said how important precedent is, then they will not rule against Roe v. Wade. Politicians know this and know they can use it to win votes, but that nothing will be done. Rather sad isn't it? But politicians are politicians and they will go where they think the votes are.

Example: In 1978, as a congressional candidate, Bush supported a Woman's Right to Choose... "Bush said he...favors leaving up to a woman and her doctor the abortion question."

Then, when votes are needed Bush flops .... FLOP: BUSH OPPOSES A WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE "I am pro-life."

    [Governor Bush, 10/3/00]

This and many other reasons is why I take with a grain of salt anything a politician says.

The Libertarian Party supports having our government as small and unintrusive as possible in the lives of citizens.

Sounds like Thomas Jefferson's "The best government is the least government."

How do you think it would work in our modern world. [Assuming we are modern. ]

Crabtown here we go again with the back alley abortion argument. Yes, there will be illegal abortions and yes some women would die along with thier babies because they chose to break the law. Your argument is lame because in such cases the woman is breaking the law by her own choice, committing murder by her own choice without the sactioning of the goverment. And, it goes without saying that most women will choose to obey the law and millions of babies lives will be saved.

Yes, elect the young messiah and we will most certainly have less goverment. Not!

You jump to conclusions. I was simply pointing out one ramification of making abortions illegal. It will not stop them. Do you have no feeling for a young woman who does die? This is not a simple issue and politicians feed on this as they know it is such an emotonal issue that many will not or cannot look at the issue in a rational way.

Do you not have feeling for an unborn child that is ripped apart limb by limb in the slaughter houses of America? We live in a world where Chickens are given more consideration that the unborn child. It is quite simple. Murder is wrong and should be stopped. And mothers who slaughter their own children should be sentenced. Period.

The easiest and most popular copout for a Christian is to set aside Christian principles and claim that they're not a one issue voter.

I don't know how they do that(set aside their Christianity), but it seems to work for them. Maybe it'll work for you.

I always thought being a Christian was a full time deal. :jesus:

To follow your logic, then you will never vote for anyone. Why? Because no one is perfect and that is what you are demanding when you say "a Christian was a full time deal."

There are always more than one Christian issue in any political race.

BTW, only one verse in the Bible speaks to abortion and it comes down on the side of the mother, not the baby. But that is another topic.

You know, I've always felt this way, that I should vote for the lesser of the two evils and I've voted for pro-choice candidates when all the candidates running were for abortion.

Tuesday I went to vote in our WV primary fully intending to vote for McCain as the lesser of the evils. When I got there, I just couldn't do it. My conscience would not let me vote for him, knowing that he is pro-abortion. Instead, I voted for a lesser candidate who "dropped out" of the race a while ago. This has never happened to me before.

So, don't be too hard on those who vote for the lesser of the evils. God will convict us if we're wrong without "help" from those who disagree with us.

Yes, of course. But that is a different topic from what this thread is talking about. I have feelings for the child and for the mother, I am very sad for both. It is a tragedy.

If the young woman who has an abortion should receive a sentence, should the young man who fathered the child be given any punishment for placing her in the position where she chose abortion? What responsibility does he have?

    Is being a Christian logical?

Keep trying to "reason it away" if you wish.

Never seems to work for me.
