I'm starting this thread in response to a statement made in a news thread about Americans being closely divided. . .

Do you believe the Jews are still God's chosen people, and that we should be friends with Isreal? Why or why not?

Yes. I'm what many today would call an Israel Apologist and I don't apologize for it.

The Jews are citizens of the new Israel and nothing more. The church is the Israel of God.

We need to respect Israel as a sovereign country as we do other nations. There is no special significance to the land, in my opinion.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Israel is where Christ will establish his 1000 year reign. All they have ever had to do was ask.

According to the apostle Paul, you are not "God's people" by physical birth, by being a Jew, by being an Israelite, by being a physcial descendent of Abraham.......You become God's people by faith in Christ alone. If you don't receive Christ as Savior, you will be condemned, regardless of nationality or blood line.
Israel is nation, just like the USA. That is all.

Rom 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither [is that] circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
Rom 2:29 But he [is] a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision [is that] of the heart, in the spirit, [and] not in the letter; whose praise [is] not of men, but of God.

If as many of you are saying, Israel is 'just another nation' and the Jews 'just another people', what accounts for the almost universal hatred for the land and people?

Sorry, I believe that Israel and her people are still the 'apple of his eye'.

Israel still has an end time role to play in prophesy. God is still using them and according to Zech. Chapter 12 the last great revival will be of the Jewish people finally recognizing the hands that were pierced in the house of His friends. :praying: :praying: :praying: :praying:
As Paul said, pray for the salvation of the Jewish people.

I say yes, God made a covanant with Abraham, it still applies to his SEED.

Gen 17:2-7 And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly. (3) And Abram fell on his face. And God talked with him, saying, (4) As for Me, behold! My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. (5) Neither shall your name any more be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham. For I have made you a father of many nations. (6) And I will make you exceedingly fruitful, greatly so, and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come out of you. (7) And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your seed after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you and to your seed after you.

God promised Israel to Abraham's descendants for all time. If he reneged on that promise, then all of a sudden I'm not sure anyone is truly saved.

I'll answer your question if you'll answer mine.

The old covenant wasn't voided. It was fulfilled in Christ.

That's not a good answer. When God says "forever" he really meant "only until Calvary" ?

    Really ?

I think its splitting hairs myself. We all know that the only way to the Father is thru Jesus, I dont think anybody is going to argue that fact. But what about the country, is it HOLY LAND or NOT, that I guess is the question.

We are all decendants of Abraham the moment we become children of God. Correct. Jesus is a decendant of Abraham which in turn when we accept him makes us decendants.

Now is the land Holy or NOT
When Moses was on the Mountain was he standing on Holy Ground just because God was present or is the Mountain Holy?????? We can speculate all we want to I guess and we will find out for sure when we get to Heaven. I dont know about you but the first person Im going to hunt down after seeing God is Paul, Ive got alot of questions for Him. LOL

Bro. Curtis, how are people saved? By being a Jew? By being a citizen of Israel?

God did mean forever. All those from all times will be saved by grace through faith, not because they are a certain nationality. Paul makes this abundantly clear.
But now, not only do the OT saints receive the inheritance, but Gentiles will receive it as well. We are part of the same tree as Israel. We have been grafted in. Christ is the vine and only those who cling to the vine will be saved. In this way, God has kept and will continue to keep His promises. But His promises are not made to "countries" or "states", but only to those who have faith in His Son. This is true Israel.

As National and Political alliances go, yes. However, as a Church they are to be as much a people subject to the gospel of Christ and His grace as any other people are.
