    THE PLAME GAME
    Analyst says Wilson
    'outed' wife in 2002

Valerie Plame appeared in Vanity Fair magazine with her husband Joseph Wilson in January 2004
A retired Army general says the man at the center of the CIA leak controversy, Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, revealed his wife Valerie Plame's employment with the agency in a casual conversation more than a year before she allegedly was "outed" by the White House through a columnist.

Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely told WorldNetDaily that Wilson mentioned Plame's status as a CIA employee over the course of at least three, possibly five, conversations in 2002 in the Fox News Channel's "green room" in Washington, D.C., as they waited to appear on air as analysts.

Vallely and Wilson both were contracted by Fox News to discuss the war on terror as the U.S. faced off with Iraq in the run-up to the spring 2003 invasion.

Vallely says, according to his recollection, Wilson mentioned his wife's job in the spring of 2002 – more than a year before Robert Novak's July 14, 2003, column identified her, citing senior administration officials, as "an Agency operative on weapons of mass destruction."

It was well known in their neighborhood that Valerie was an imbedded agent, and they knew it for many years. They didn't even try to hide her activities, and it even looks like they were quite proud of it.

And this detracts from Libby's alleged guilt how, exactly? It seems rather akin to pleading that you're not guilty of murder even though you plunged a knife into someone by virtue of the fact that someone else had fatally stabbed them 10 minutes earlier and they were already bleeding to death when you stuck your knife in.

    Who said it did?

We do want the whole truth, don't we...not just the part that suits us?

Something like this could be the reason Fitzgerald indicted no one for outing Plame.

Where did you hear this? Citations please.

Plame was outed by Libby in 2002. The photoshoot, admitted by Wilson to be a wretchedly bad idea in retrospect, was in 2004. In the interval did she recovert again despite all the publicity? Or are the waters being muddied by irrelevant issues in the hopes of distracting attention from Republican woes?

    Widely known?

At least two veteran reporters say Valerie Plame's association with the CIA was widely known, and a prominent analyst on military and political affairs, Victor Davis Hanson, told WorldNetDaily his own green-room encounter with Wilson revealed a man who is unusually free with personal information to strangers.

Former Time magazine correspondent Hugh Sidey told the New York Sun in a story published Sunday. "[Plame's] name was knocking around in the sub rosa world we live in for a long time."

NBC reporter Andrea Mitchell, in an appearance on CNBC's "Capitol Report," Oct. 3, 2003, was asked how widely it was known in Washington that Wilson's wife worked for the CIA.

"It was widely known among those of us who cover the intelligence community and who were actively engaged in trying to track down who among the foreign service community was the envoy to Niger," she said.

I personally feel the Wilson’s have their own agenda. And if anyone is going to be indicted for lying perhaps we should start with Joe Wilson.

Libby pleaded NOT GUILTY. He is still awaiting trial. Yet some of you have already convicted him. Please spare us the hypocrisy that you believe in our judicial system and innocent until proven guilty.

Libby was not indicted for outing Plame. He was indicated for lying about a crime he did not commit. The charges are very weak. If this is the standard we are to follow, I presume there should be many more indictments for people not being completely forthright. Let’s start with the media.

Since when does the left care about the CIA.

That's right, widely known. Many knew she worked for the CIA, but as an imbedded agent? Her neighbors thought she was a secretary or something, iirc.

Wilson's being an envoy was not a secret. That his wife worked for the CIA was not a secret. That she worked covertly as an agent was a secret, until Libby blabbed.

Then he allegedly lied about blabbing. He is charged not with blabbing but with obstruction of justice.

    Well, yeah.

Did he lie under oath and obstruct justice?

    Eh, bothersome technicalities!

Our last president was impeached for lying under oath. Was that not serious?

We don't know what they said under oath to the special prosecutor.

Since we found out about them. I think many people, left, right and in between, are capable of distinguishing between and secret agency and the individuals who work for it. Personal dramas are always compelling.

It says nothing about Libby's innocence or guilt since he was not indicted of outing her.

</font>[/QUOTE]Sorry, Daisy. No one ever revealed or stated she was a "covert" agent. It was simply revealed she worked for the CIA.

As it turns out, there is every reason to believe she did not meet the criteria set by the law to be considered a "covert" agent.

Same thing Wilson told the General.

He is indicted for lying to the grand jury. He may have been trying to avoid political fall out, but it should not be assumed that he outed the lady based on this indictment.

Pew Poll: 4/5 Say Libby Indictment Important To The Nation...

By Will Lester, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON — The recent indictment of Vice President Cheney's top aide has struck a nerve with the American public. Four in five, 79%, said the indictment of former Cheney aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby on perjury and other charges is important to the nation, according to a poll by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.
Pew noted that in September 1998, 65% said President Clinton's lies under oath were important. Clinton was impeached over his handling of an affair with Monica Lewinsky, but was acquitted by the Senate on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.

Libby was charged with lying to investigators and a grand jury during an investigation of his role in revealing the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame, wife of an outspoken critic of the war against Iraq.

That's true. In fact at this point from Libby's perspective it doesn't make any difference whether he outed her or nor. He's being charged with obstruction of justice, making false statements and perjury in the case.

That's more than what President Clinton was impeached for doing. Libby could face up to 30 years in prison and $1.25 million in fines if convicted on all five counts.

Clinton lives a charmed life. Even G. W. seems to be covering up for him with his latest Executive Order, of course Poppie's papers are now of limits to the public as well.

I never could figure out why a self proclaimed conservative anti UN guy like Bush would let Clinton's EXO's stand, globalists...who can figure em out eh?

More distraction and misdirection. The real story that is unfolding is more interesting. IMHO.

Yes, I heard Rush Limbaugh say this. I also heard Sean Hannity say this as well.

Were you this critical of the charges against former President Clinton? Remember: the whole perjury charges were a result of the Whitewater investigation.

Or are you like Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison?

    Regards,
