    [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Dear Gerald,
Great news! The Federal Communications Commission has fined ABC television stations $1.43 million for broadcasting indecent programming on "NYPD Blue." It was the second-largest indecency fine against a television broadcaster ever.

The agency proposed a $27,500 fine against 52 ABC-owned and affiliate stations in the Central and Mountain time zones, which broadcast the episode before 10 p.m.-the cutoff for the FCC's authority to police the airwaves.

The episode, shown Feb. 25, 2003, included a scene featuring a woman and a young boy. In the scene, the woman disrobes in a bathroom.

I've heard about this a few days ago. Since she was fully nude in front of a minor, couldn't they fine them for corruption of a minor?

    Wow!

Pretty hefty fine, but I wonder why it took 5 years?

Usually I would agree. Not this time.

The FCC's job is to make sure indecent programing isn't aired at certain times. They made the choice to show this at the "wrong" time. A fully nude woman in front of a child. That would be indecent and corruption of a minor.

I disagree that a human form corrupts a child. Shoot, babies suckle their mothers' bare breasts. How does seeing a nude person, male or female, corrupt anything?

The FCC's real job is administering the publicly-owned broadcast spectrum. This big brother stuff is going too far.

So, you would let your child watch a nude photo shoot, or soft-core porn?

That's what they did. The ABC affiliates were let off light.

It wasn't a sexually oriented scene (according to what I have read), which makes MP's point stronger.

The FCC fined ABC for breaking their rules. Why it took so long is what baffles me.

If I recall, God has a problem on looking on the nakedness of others not your spouse.

Still they had a young male child walk-in on an adult woman.
Why? I would have fined them for indecent programing and corruption of a minor.

I know some here have children and wouldn't want an adult male walking in fully nude into their daughter's room, etc.

I don't know why it took so long. They need to speed it up.

Pornography is not equal to nudity. No responsible parent would let a kid watch pornography, as that is a twisted view of sexuality. That is not what happened here.

No, I was speaking of licensing the airwaves, not regulating content.

I didn't say porn. I said anything with just nudity. I guess you wouldn't have a problem.

    Yes you did.

The scene in question involved bare buttocks. That's it. I don't think seeing a little hiney is going to "corrupt" (whatever that means...you still haven't said what that is) anyone.

    Exodus 28:42 (KJV)
And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:

    Isaiah 47:2-3 (KJV)
2: Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.
3: Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.

    Habbakkuk 2:15 (KJV)
Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

Leviticus, chapter 20 Seems if you uncover anyone's nakedness unless it be your spouse it's wickedness.

Well, it's porn, but just nudity. Not porn like you might be thinking.

    Article

They might have only showed some nudity, but the child saw everything.
    It was unnecessary.

    How do you know that?

Film splicing and different camera angles can put a scene together quite well. The boy may not have seen anything.
