I always wear a hat to worship meetings, because of the above. However, several have told me that it is not necessary, some even think that it is silly of me - what do you think? Or rather how do you read this piece of scripture?

It's not required, but you're certainly welcome to if you want to.

Don't worry about pleasing people...strive to be pleasing to God.

I typed up a little "Frequently Asked Questions" tract that deals with the questions of headcovering being cultural, your hair being a covering, etc. to help others understand why I wear a covering. I could PM you if you want a copy.

Basically, it is an outward sign of an inward obedience for me. There are other women who wear only dresses or who don't wear makeup or jewelry because of being obedient to God in their lives. That's what being a Christian is about, really, being willing to obey and follow and we are not all made aware of the same thing and the same time.

    Blessings,

    suzanne

Do you feel that some women are called for this, and maybe not others? Otheres may be called to something else? As long as a woman obeys what they feel convicted to do, it doesn' matter if we are all called for the samethings?
Just asking what people are really thinking instead of jumping to conclusions.
Wuld you pm me one too, I don't feel convicted in the least, but would like to understand where people are coming from on this type of issue.
    Thanks Suzanne

    Dear Gwyneth,
I have alot to say about this. But, I know of a few sources that can help you. www.charitymininstries.org offers free cassettes that teach why we must cover our heads. The tape set is called, The Headship Veiling. Also, if you read Vines Expository Dictionary you can find out the word for cover in verse five means a veil. And the one in fifteen is the hair. Also do a good study of church history and you will find that women always covered for church until uhh, the 50's or so. Hmm, what was happening during that time....A good church study in this issue will turn up some wonderful points about it. I believe CHarity also has a free book called Let Her be Veiled with church history info and pictures of etches from the first century.
Many hate this symbol today because of what it means. I have been covering my head for two years now. And most Christian women I know have disowned me and new ones I meet uhh, sort of keep their disctance... It was not an easy decision for me to choose to wear one full time. But, the peace, blessings and protection cannot be matched. It also helps me to remember my position under my husband and I believe it is a reminder ot him about his position.
I can talk to you more at length if you choose at [email protected]

My wife and I always try to attend the FBC, Jacksonville, Florida Pastor's Conferences each year. Jerry Vines is one of my Southern Baptist heroes. Anyway, there are many ladies who wear hats in the worship services--we always look forward to seeing the different styles.

Personally, my wife's hair is her glory!! And as long as her glory is there--she don't need no hat to cover that glory!! Those 1 Corinthian 11 hats were there for all those ladies who were gettin' saved and were in the process of "growin'" their glory back--until the glory grows back--wear a hat!!

    Your friend,

    Blackbird,
Does it bother you at all when other men admire your wife's glory? Just curious.

    Mr Villenes,
We all know that hair is beautiful to many men. So, why should a woman flaunt it and have other men stare at it and lust because they enjoy looking at it? How is Christ honored by a woman flaunting her glory and loving the attention that other men besides her husband give to her because of the hair?

no disrespect meant here, but in my experience, its not the hair that cause men to lust.
We had a family of 10 visit our church recently and the wife wears a full time head covering. I thought of you, HCL!!! [IMG] They are really a neat family, and I was so proud of how our church folks included them. Their children were delightful and so respectful. I am thrilled that I will have 2 of them as piano students starting in January.
I understand the argument for wearing the covering. Submission to one's husband is a big issue, and to me, the attitude of the heart is more important than an outward sign. My prayer is that my love and respect for my husband show through in every aspect of my being. I just dont see the need to wear a material object. But it doesnt offend me for others to do so.

    Tatertot,
Thank you for the kind words. I think this family will be appreciative of you being so loving to them.
As far as an outward symbol is concerned you are right the heart is number one as well as the action of submission. But, verse ten does say that it is "because of the angels," that a woman is to cover. So, I believe there is some spiritual protection for ladies who do so.

just something to think about since I believe it is of utmost importance to understand scripture in the context in which it was written. While it comes from a COC source, I believe they are accurate just the same.

(it is the second article down)

HCL, I'd listen, but it wouldn't change my mind. Might help me understand others views on the subject better though.

    Katie,
Will you order them? Let me know if you do later and tell me what you think. I really would love to hear what you think of them.

Here's a site for you to go to, I've directed many to it: http://www.anabaptists.org/tracts/covertrc.html

Gives an excellent argument for headcoverings. Personally, rather than a hat, I would recommend a veil, kerchief, or a Mennonite type headcovering.
