Neither the word Jew or Gentile appear in 1 john. There is nothing in the epistle to suggest that he is addressing only Jewish belivers.
This is who John is speaking to
13 ¶ These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God 1 john 5:13
This includes all christians then and now so saying "our" =Jew and whole world= Gentile just does not work.
Again you are trying to make the world mean the elect and that is just not what it means
Lets look at the context of the word world in 1st john

19 ¶ And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness
    1 john 5:19--
Notice this is the only other time John uses the phrase " Whole world"
Can the whole world possibly be elect Gentiles?

1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not 1john 3:1

The world knows not Christ nor the Christian.
Notice here again we have "us" contrasted with the world.
This is the context of the world. Not the verse in the gospel of John chapter 11.

    Notice John 11:51-52
If Jesus died for the nation (jews) then all the Jews are saved Just Like all Gentiles would have to be saved in 1 John 2:2 . Or do you mean to imply that he just died for elect Jews? Wait... It cant be just elect Jews...Caiaphas did not limit his prophesy to the elect. Look at verse 50.

50 nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
Did he not say the "whole nation"? Although Caiphas equated "the people" with the "whle nation", the Jews were now just a nation like any other nation on earth.. When John interprets the prophecy of Caiaphas he says that Christ will die for the nation of Jews but he adds that he will die for the Jews "scattered abroad".
    (john 11:52)
and not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
This is related to the Jewish sheep discussed in the previous chapter.
Outside of Israel the phrase "children of God" is never a refrence for members of the Church until they are saved.-- See galations 3:26
Christ had not died yet and had not began to build his church.
Before they are saved the elect were "children of wrath"
    see eph2:3
What it boils down to is that the verse in John has nothing to do with the context of 1 John 2:2

...and YOU have no clue as to whether you are in the MANY or not. All you know for sure is that statistically it is more likely you ARE AMONG the MANY than the few.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because YOU (if you are a 3 or 5 point Calvinist) will be the FIRST to DENY that the claimed BELIEF is real at all - IF that person FAILS to persevere 10 years from today!! You will "retro delete" that "belief"!!

How much more obvious can this point be?

Why pretend not to see it - why not just answer it??

    What is your game?

    Listen carefully -

The Arminian can KNOW he is saved today - but not that he will STILL be saved ten years from today.

The 3 and 5 Point Calvinist can't even know that!!

So far you provide no form of reason/logic/scripture to extricate the 3 and 5 point Calvinists from that dilemma.

Would you like another run at it?

    In Christ,

    Bob

Having said that - some Arminians will claim OSAS - but they don't have a structure in Arminianism that supports that contradiction.

By the same token most 3 and 5 point Calvinists will ALSO claim to KNOW they have salvation today EVEN though their own system REQUIRES that they retro-DELETE today's assurance when it is found that 10 years from today they fail to persevere.

The irrational approach these two groups use (Trying to have it both ways) - is obvious none-the-less.

    No.

Calvinism "Assumes that God is a failure" when they see Adam fall and when they see "THE WHOLE WORLD" being benefitted by the "ATONING SACRIFICE for SIN" in that it was FOR THEM.

Then Calvinism tries to "fix" the problem by "downsizing the Gospel".

However - Calvinism MADE UP the problem to start with just so they could find an excuse for applying their own solution.

So what is the best way to squirm out of this??

Take JohnP's solution - CLAIM that the FEW of Matt 7 is FAR MORE than anyone should CARE to have going to heaven!!

They seem to be "Satisified" with that answer when confronted with the future Calvinist scenarion and finding one's OWN precious daughter burning in the flames as they WATCH according to Edwards on Rev 14:10.

    How sad.

Then there is the other "obvious" part of that problem

Here "Again" they will need some circular argument -- but will still not have an actual answer for the problem of their OWN doctrine on retro-deleting assurance!!

    How sad.

In the mean time - the Arminian view fully accepts the Bible teaching that "GOD SO LOVED the WORLD ... yes REALLY!".

    How wonderful!!

Once again - what great guy to invent scriptures on behalf of Calvinism AS IF his quote "were true"!!!

I suppose if I were also a Calvinist confronted by that Arminian text we know of as "The Bible" I might be tempted to start writing my own more "Calvinist friendly text" too!

Fortunately I am Arminian - so I can just accept the scriptures as is.

"GOD SO LOVED the WORLD ... yes REALLY!".

The idea that God cut off the CHOSEN nation to save the world is foreign to Romans 11 since Paul argues God is able to GRAFT THEM IN AGAIN and it is ONLY because of their UNBELIEF that they fall.

UNBELIEF is not a form of "salvation" nor is it a form of "evangelism".

This is another point that seems to "surprise" Calvinists!

    How sad.

    Bob

Paul points to the same error of those who argue that SIN needs to increase for GRACE TO ABOUND.
