In another thread Ed Edwards bought up the fact that there are different numbers of appearances of the word bowels (or bowles) between the 1611 KJV and the 1769 KJV. Ed apparently had a slight misunderstanding of the usage of bowels, bowles, and bowls. I did an online search, and here is what I discovered...

    BOWELS appears in the 1611 KJV 40 times: Gen 15:4; 25:23; 43:30; Num 5:22; 2 Sam 7:12; 16:11; 20:10; 1 Kin 3:26; 2 Chr 21:14, 18, 19; 32:21; Job 30:14, 27' Ps 22:14; 109:18; Song 5:4; Is 16:11; 48:19; 49:1; 63:15; Jer 4:19; 31:20; Lam 1:20; 2:11; Eze 3:3; 7:19; Sirach 10:9; 30:7; 2 Mac 9:5, 6; 14:46; Acts 1:18; 2 Cor 6:12; Phil 1:8; 2:1; Col 3:12; Phm 1:7, 12; and 1 Jn 3:17.

(Note: the bolding in the following paragraphs is due to system error. Please ignore the bolding.)

    BOWLES appears in the 1611 KJV 19 times: Ex 25:29, 31, 33, 34; 37:16, 17, 19, 20; Num 4:7; 7:84; 1 Kin 7:41, 42; 2 Kin 12:13; 25:15; 1 Chr 28:17; Amos 6:6; Zech 9:15; 14:20; and Philemon 1:20.

    BOWELS appears in the 1769 KJV 42 times: Gen 15:4; 25:23; 43:30; Num 5:22; 2 Sam 7:12; 16:11; 20:10; 1 Kin 3:26; 2 Chr 21:15, 18, 19; 32:21; Job 20:14; 30:27; Ps 22:14; 71:6; 109:18; Song 5:4; Is 16:11; 48:19; 49:1; 63:15; Jer 31:20; Lam 1:20; 2:11; Eze 3:3; 7:19; Sirach 10:9; 30:7; 2 Mac 9: 5, 6; 14:46; Acts 1:18; 2 Cor 6:12; Phil 1:8; 2:1; Col 3:12; Phm 1:7, 12, 20; and 1 Jn 3:17.

BOWLES does not appear in the 1769 KJV. However, when I checked the appearances of BOWLES and compared the spellings, all but one of the appearances was shown as BOWLS in the 1769 KJV. The Philemon 1:20 reference appears as BOWELS in the 1769 KJV.

Apparently Ed mistook the word BOWLES in the 1611 KJV to mean the same as BOWELS. However, in the 1611 KJV BOWLES was apparently what appears as BOWLS today.

Here is what I posted in the other thread:
    -----------------------
    Daily Reading the KJV1611 Edition
    -----------------------
    2 Corinthians 6:12 (KJV1611 Edition):
Yee are not straitened in vs,
but yee are straitned in your owne bowels.

    Say what?
What should I do next week different than last week
because of what this scripture says?
    Actually, a better question is:
    What does this scritpure say?
    correction:
    What does this scripture say?
(tee hee, the KJV1611 Edition is the only
dylexic one around here ;) )

BTW, if we wanted to committ a Riplingerism we
    would say:
The KJV1769 has added two more 'bowels',
the KJV1611 Edition has 37 'bowels'; the KJV1769
    Edition has 39 'bowels'.

    English Standard Version
    2 Corinthians3:12 (ESV = English Standard Version)
Since we have such a hope, we are very bold,

    Philemon 1:20 (KJV1611):
Yea, brother, let mee haue ioy of thee in the Lord:
refresh my bowles in the Lord.

'Bowels' appears 8 times in the KJV1611 Edition
and 9 times in the KJV1769 edition. Why has
the KJV1769 added the word 'bowles'?
'Bowles' is spelled wrong in the KJV1611 Edition:
    'bowles' should be 'bowels'.
    -----------------------

What Bro. Keith M noticed, and what I noticed is
that different search engines give different results
in the 'same version' of the KJVs.
I was using the KJV1769 with Strong's numbers from
e-Sword and the KJV1611 Edtion also from e-sword.

SO when the KJVO* Bible Smashers deride my Bible
by saying some word and some numbers, I check real
close to see what really is the matter at hand.
By so doing, I win the moral victory for
I have studied my bible and the Bible Smasher of
the Month Club authors barely touched the surface.

    *Caveat:
not all KJVOs are Bible Smashers nor do all KJVOs
deride my Bible. In fact, pinned to the top of this
Forum is a discussion of five types of KJVOs of which
    I am 'KJVO#2'.

Here in this matter it is obvious what when on:

    Philemon 1:20 (KJV1611):
Yea, brother, let mee haue ioy of thee in the Lord:
refresh my bowles in the Lord.

the then word 'bowles' for the now
word 'bowls' went BY ERROR in place of the proper
    word 'bowels'.

Anyway, 'bowels' as used in the O.T. and N.T. refers
    to the abdominal cavity and
metaphorically to the gonads or to the seat
of compassion. So the phrase 'bowels of compassion'
defines what is frequently the meaning of 'bowels'
    that is metaphoricaly: compassion.
Yep, someone who shuts up thier bowels (constipated)
isn't interested in sharing with the world. By contrast
if one has bowels of compassion, then one will
(pardon the pun) be moved to share with the world
    and with others.

    I don't shoot Bible smashers ;)
However, I feel responsible for and called to expose
the evil works of those who do Smash Bibles.
