I heard about this a couple days ago. A TWO YEAR OLD girl was admitted to the Mensa Society, the club reserved for the ultra ultra intelligent. Nuclear Physicists, Asto Physicists, Brain surgeons, etc.

Its not that she can do all of that stuff, but she is so far beyond normal 2 year olds in IQ that she qualified.

They said that at a little over 1 year old she was dressing herself, and learing some FRENCH! And by 18 months she was having proper conversations with adults. They said that when they took her to see the movie "Beauty and the Beast"...this is a 2 YEAR OLD...her comment was (she is 2 YEARS OLD)... "I didn't like Gaston. He was mean and arrogant."

I quit MENSA because their parties were boring.

If I were to join again, I'd quit for different reasons. I know that I wouldn't want my 2 year old exposed to many of these people.

But, it is quite impressive when a 2 year old can do these things. Child prodigies are always fascinating.

I have a recording of my 2 year old nephew back in 1985 proving how smart he was.

At two, he was able to

Give not just emergency phone numbers, but names and addresses of close relatives.

    Recite His Dad's work number.

    Count to 100 and beyond.

    Recite the pledge of allegience.

    Recite his ABC's.

He also would call Pizza Hut on the telephone without any prompting other than mom saying she wanted to order pizza.

None of the numbers were programmed in the phone, btw.

At 4, he was explaining the reproductive process to his mother after reading an encyclopedia set a friend of the family had given him.

    Boy was she shocked!

I belonged to MENSA for a short time several years ago. I really wasn't into it. I just joined for the fun of it.

I went to a couple of their gatherings and the people there were real jerks. They just wanted to be in MENSA so they could feel like they were better than everybody else.

    I quit.

If her parents have a portion of her IQ, or some intelligence, they'll keep her far from Mensa.

I quit because the Seattle chapter was mostly interested in sources of good dope.

I've declined joining for the same reasons mentioned.

What's the deal with all this? I was thinking it was just a bad personal experience relative to MENSA, but it appears that MENSA is a universally pathetic group.
