Each Century seems to have a "key" nation in history.

    15th Century = Italians
    16th Century = Spaniards
    17th Century = French
    18th Century = British
    19th Century = German
    20th Century = American

What nation do you see as the "key" nation in the 21st Century?

Back on topic - I was thinking China mind be the nation. Powerful, largest military, economy on the verge of breakout (like US in 1900).

SERIOUS answers, although "North Mexico" has some validity!

    China is a good thought.

If Europe survives her childbirth and infancy it could very well be her century. I know that at the moment Europe is NOT considered a country, but one currency, a possible constitution, an identity - who knows?

I agree C4K - If we survive our birth pangs the rest of the world had better watch out! ;)

Serious? I cannot envision Europe "united". Its whole history is a tribute of Balkanization.

Great Britain is not much of a "united" kingdom and they all have common language and culture. Add in the French, German, Italian and Bohunks like me and I see ONLY A MISCARRIAGE, not a baby!

Bohunks? (really don't know that one)

We'll have to see Dr Bob - 100 years is a LONG time!

Dr. Bob, have you ever checked out all the articles at NewsMax about China (Conservative web site)? There are 100s.

China doesn't get much air play in other Conservative publications, but NewsMax has the goods:

Here's a link for you (or anyone else who is interested) to begin.

    http://www.newsmax.com/hottopics/China!Taiwan.shtml

    And, you are probably right.

Bohemians. Used to be an quazi-independent nation prior to WWI, then gobbled up by Czechoslovakia.

Think it's part of the Czech Republic now, along with Moravia, another ethnic region.

Grandma Millena Prohaska game to Prague, Nebraska from Bohemia in 1884.

Knew some in Chicago. Always liked them. Must be what I like about you, Doctor! Be glad that you don't live in a big city. I wonder why God even allows big cities? You can't even see the stars. If you ever get any money, you want out of the big city forever.

Why would anyone live in Chicago? I interned at Medinah/Roselle in the western 'burbs, but stayed away from the Loop.

And why would anyone live in Indianapolis? One of the most "personality free" cities I've ever spoken in!

Spent a week there one night. [IMG]

Chicago, the city that works, is unemployed right now. Indianapolis, the Cinderella of the rust belt, got loved to death when a quarter of a million people moved here in the last fifteen years. The first thing that the newcomers did was kill off the old Indianapolis. Indianapolis also is out of work. Fifty thousand jobs were lost since the Nine Eleven Massacre.

I don't think the US is finished yet! But China and the EU are up and coming, with India I reckon not far behind. China and India are interesting cases: provided they can make the technological leaps forward to catch up with the rest whilst ensuring that the wealth thus created is fairly evenly distributed, they will be more than a force to be reckoned with. The EU will be a useful but reasonably friendly counterbalance to the US if we can get our political act together and be more democratic and accountable.

    Yours in Christ

    Matt

I think that the USA is finished as a superpower. We have a group of thirty percent that is unwilling to deal truthfully with problems in their quest for power. Our military is too small and too scattered. Our debt is overwhelming as the domestic population uses the vote only to enrich themselves at the expense of the federal treasury. Our money is backed up by nothing.

Europe may unite if they can drag England and her wealth into a continental system to care for European welfare recipients.

Otherwise, China because of her ability to field a huge army will dominate the future. Also, China has an economic system of low wages that will give China an economic edge worldwide.

Yep, me too. Pat Buchanan gives the reasons for it in the his book, "Death of the West."

Like Rome, we are crumbling from within. [IMG]

Yes, we have two main problems. The government has allowed about four thousand people per day to be put to death. Time is running out to stop this before it leads to collapse.

Secondly, we have left our borders undefended so that are enemies enter at will and wreak havoc at will. Foreign enemies want us destroyed in order to confiscate what is left of our wealth.
