In this corner you have Sunnis...insurgents...independents....and in this corner you have Shiites...armed militias...death squads...their independents as well but wait we have a third angle focused on killing the middle....foreign fighters and al qaeda minority. And who is in the middle you may ask???

    American youth and blood

    http://www.abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=2811374

Spending blood and treasure(now 8.4 Billion a month) while trying to separate two factions who are like pit bulls trying to kill each other is impossible.

Get them out of harms way!!! It is not in our national interests they can stand off and be at the borders of Iran and Syria and that would be a lot more effective.

I and others have warned for years it is not in our interests to die and spend for a civil war it is time for the American people (and they are) to lend their massive voice against this incompetent lead mistake by the bush and cheney and their noise machine enablers.

And no one in a position to do anything about it, seems to care.

    Yes. "War is hell."

What would you have us do? leave the region to deteriorate into total chaos? Leave the region to these crazies? What about all the innocent people who would face greater danger if we leave?

And finally, did you not learn ANYTHING in your history class about what the MOORS did to Europe? You want the same thing to happen? It will.

We need leaders who have the courage to ignore the whiny-butts who would have us leave and let the Islamists wreak terror and destruction unhindered. But, alas, that won't happen. Get ready people. It is coming faster than most seem prepared to admit. Tribulation like the world has never seen nor ever will see again. It is coming soon to a town near you.

This guy in my Sunday School class is in Iraq now for like the third, maybe fourth, time. This time he has been deployed for a undetermined amount of time so nobody, not even his wife, knows when he will return. It makes me sick that our military is being used like this to help a bunch of people who are not Americans, and who refuse to help themselves.

Ideally, we wouldn't have created the mess in the first place. But seeing as we did, and then acted after the war in a way that was guaranteed to produce a civil war, the question, is "What do we do, given the disaster we created?"

At some point, we will have to decide we have killed enough Americans, and thrown sufficent billions of dollars down a rathole, and then move on.

Um. I think "Moors" is capitalized only in the first letter. The Moors had one of the few civilized places in Europe for a long time. From them, we got medicine, chemistry, mathematics, and a host of other things. The Moorish kingdoms of Iberia were also a haven for Jews who were being killed and persecuted in Christian Europe.

It wasn't always like this. There was a time when the Muslims were like us, and we were the way they are now. For the most part. There were always liberal Christians, and there were always fanatical Muslims. But the roles have changed since the dark ages.

We can only hope it will end like the Moorish kingdoms. More likely it will be like the Crusader's sack of Jerusalem.
Armies of the First Crusade took control of Jerusalem in July 1099. This illustration depicts the subsequent sack of the city, during which Crusaders massacred its Egyptian defenders and inhabitants. Having captured the holy city for Christianity, the Crusaders established Jerusalem as the center of the Latin Kingdom.

That "whiney-butt" is sitting in the Oval Office. He is responsible for all of it. His war, his goofs, his mess. And now, finally, he says we won't stay forever.

Just long enough, presumably, to kill a few hundred more American troops so he can try to make it look like something less than a complete debacle.

We need to either send in another 200.000 troops or pull the ones we have there out. Doing this halfway as Bush has done for almost four years is a failure.

Sure . . . the mohamadens never attacked into europe and made the pope call for a Christian counter attack to push back the enemy . . .

    . . . Sure . . . in an orwellian twist . . .

But, not in the real world.

I can agree with this part.

As to the OP's title, they are dying to defend our way of life. And while I agree that I want them home.

We totally disagree with the motivation for the war - they are dying for our way of life. They are targeted by people that want to cause a violent atmosphere so that they can continue to murder. Because if they quit murdering their own people, they will not have the opportunity to murder anymore.

Yes, war is hell. Just wondering if you had ever experienced that or its just another saying to you. Deteriorate into total chaos? What is it now? If you use the same incompetent leadership to make the same incompetent decisions, why would you expect a different result? To get a postive, different result, do something different.

Didnt history teach you anything about Vietnam? Whiny-butts as you call them are around for every war, but the answer is not just opposing them and supporting a president who obviously does not know what he is doing.

By the way, where did you get this insight into the timing of the coming Tribulation?

    As late as 1683.

That was to capture the Holy Land and Jerusalem from the Muslims, not for Europe.

We sometimes assume that we were always the civilized and dominant culture. But it's not so. Islam is coming out of their own dark ages, in much the same way as we came out of ours, and they are behaving pretty much the way we did back then.

Which means the next few hundred years are likely to be interesting ones.

ut, not in the real world.

Thanks, EG. Some people have believed the mohammed version of history, not the real facts. I have to laugh at all the claims of what "inventions" we got from the muslims. History also refutes that list.

    Galatian said:
Yes, let's start another thread based on this claim and see what the truth is. The very fact that muslims burned the Great Library at Alexandria and trashed it is a perfect demonstration of their quest for knowledge. (ROLLING EYES!!)

Viet Nam taught me that we cannot win ANY war as long as there are politicians involved in making the decisions. It's a losing situation for our military when they are supposed to be nation building and winning hearts and minds while trying to fight a war with one hand tied behind their backs.

This politician Bush sitting in the WH does not have the interests of the troops and the American people at heart --only his delusion of a democratic Iraq which will never happen there. It will continue to be a disaster whether we are there another six months or 10 years or if we pull out. The mentality of people who bite heads off of living bunnies cannot be reconciled with a Western ideology, such as democracy.

And yes, tribulation and homicide bombers are coming to a mall, restaurant, grocery store, school, ballgame near you, whether we are still in Iraq or not. Our leadership focus has been on Iraq, not on protecting the American people, i.e. protecting and defending our own borders as meanwhile our borders are porous and this administrations State Department keeps importing muslims into our country and permitting muslims with jihad ideology to come here on cultural visas. I predict one day there will be a civil war in America, but it won't be about slavery.
