A man, a layman, in my local church presented "My Commitment..." on Wed 4-06-05 for a 6:00 am Men's Breakfast. He was talking about husband-wife relationships. He challenged us to share these commitments with our wives, individually, during this week and before next Wednesday.

    "My Commitment.."

"I will be patient with you.
I will be kind to you.
    I will not resent you.
I will set aside my pride.
I will not be rude to you.
I will put your needs before mine.
I will not be easily angered.
I will keep no record of wrongs.
    I will always protect you.
    I will always trust you.
    I will never lose hope.
    I will never give up.
    I will never leave you."

    From I Corinthians 13."

What is your reaction? your comments?

    Thanks for reading, mr. messy

Sounds like a paraphrase of I Cor 13...so, what's to react to? Isn't the Bible clear cut enough on the subject? I think so. [IMG]

I saw a great marriage seminar on Love and Respect.
A husband is told to love his wife because it is not his predominant way of showing his feelings, restpect is.

Wives are told to respect their husbands because it is love that comes more naturally to them and respect is more to their husband's understanding.

It made a lot of sense.

My reaction is if all Christians followed (or obeyed) that list which is “clear in the Bible” marriage would be a much stronger union among them.

I’ll admit I struggle with a couple of them from time to time. Nothing wrong with calling attention as to how the Word says to love one another. Seems not too many keep these things on their heart often enough.

    Yeah, MR
Lack of respect can make it hard to keep a couple of those on that list. Question: Were the wives told or asked to do that?

The concept of Love & Respect refers to:

However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Ephesians 5:33 NIV

    http://www.loveandrespect.com/

A man needs respect from his wife more than the air we need to breathe. A woman needs love from her husband in the same way that he needs respect.
When they do without, the marriage suffers.

I can tell you that I have proven this based upon my own experience.

Whenever I have friends and acquaintances who get married, I always give them a Couples' Bible with commentaries and devotions just for married couples.

I also write in the front of it that if they are to have a successful marriage that I Corinthians 13 MUST be an intregal part of their marriage. I highlight portions of the chapter for them and tell them to read and meditate on it frequently.

It's a great passage for married people and for people in general.

    Peace-
    Scarlett O.
