'I Fought So That You Can Protest'

    By Fred Lucas
    CNSNews.com Staff Writer
    March 19, 2007

    EXCERPT

(CNSNews.com) - As anti-war protesters waved signs on Saturday blaming the United States for the 9/11 attacks and holding American flags upside down, an Iraq war veteran held a sign that said, "I fought in Iraq so you can protest."

Anti-war demonstrators weren't the only ones promoting their views in the nation's capital this weekend. Thousands of others also gathered, in a sea of American flags, braving the cold -- not to demand the U.S. leave Iraq, but to support the mission.

The Gathering of Eagles converged in the Mall to protect America's national monuments.

Addressing the crowd, Angela Lashley, whose son is in Iraq, proclaimed that she represented the majority of mothers.

"I represent the unheard majority," Lashley said, "the moms who are non-activists, the moms who are home packing boxes for their sons."

Not a single word about blaming the United States for the 9-11 attacks.
Not a single word about blaming the United States for the 9-11 attacks.

It is getting hard to find real truth from any news sources these days. Yes the protest did indeed happen but I find it almost unimaginable that anyone would blame our country for the 9-11 attacks.I hope that Mr Lucas was actually reporting what he heard and saw and that he was not taking any undue liberties by using sensationalism to promote his news article.

Fred Lucas at one time worked for the The News-Times in Danbury, Conn. He has a reputation for getting his stories wrong from time to time.

    My turn! My turn!

You won't understand because you're a [personal attack deleted].

MSM press coverage of the Gathering of Eagles was worse than even usual:

    http://www.rep-am.com/story.php?id=21057

There was an anti-war protest in Portland the other day:

    http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2007/03/355964.shtml

These "peaceful anti-war activists" are such patriots they set fire to a doll dressed up like a soldier. That's "supporting the troops"!

BTW 777, I have no qualms about what proceeded In washington D.C by the Gathering of Eagle , My objection was that In the piece that Fred Lucas wrote for CNS News, which he stated in a portion of his article that anti-war protesters were blaming the United States for the 9\11 attacks. Fred Lucas has done some erroneous reporting in the past and it just appeared to me that he may have taken liberties to add to the story something that may not have happened. That is why I checked other sources and checked Fred Lucas's bio.
BTW if you feel that I am bothering you , you do have an option - you can choose to ignore me.

Okay, good, I hoped you weren't part of the Loose Change crowd.

Some of those people in the pics did hold signs and wear t-shirts that said that about 9-11, what happened down in Portland was worse.

    You weren't, take care.

    Eagles Talons
enough to win the day..........and the future

    COL Harry Riley

Mission Accomplished, Goals and Objectives satisfied..........that's the result of Americans gathering in Washington, D.C. on March 17, 2007 to proclaim pride in America, support and love for our warriors in harms way, and protection of the hallowed ground of our fallen guardians of freedom.

Emails, pictures, proclamations, high-five's, a renewed spirit and hope in America is flying across the Internet, blogs, and media from around the world......Eagles (Americans, Vets young and old, active duty warriors, Moms, Dads, sisters, brothers, college and high school students, cadets) landed in Washington, D.C. on St. Patrick's Day in massive numbers, announcing to the anti-war/anti-America hate spewing surrender crowd: get used to it, count on it, accept it, and live with.............EAGLES ARE YOUR FUTURE.

According to estimate reports from the National Park Service, 30,000 Eagles soared into Washington, D.C. on St. Patrick's day to confront and drive the annoying anti-war/ANSWER pests back to their dark hide-outs of deception, distortion, lies, denigration, betrayal, treason, and surrender.

When the Eagle flies and the talons are bared, the vermin scatter, run for cover as did Jane Fonda and others who failed to return to the vomit of her decades old attempt to destroy America.......the anti-war 40 year reunion was akin to a funeral march as compared to the loud birthing joy of Eagles...

Eagles dominated the day while the national media, addicted to the ANSWER anti-war/anti-America rhetoric, bought their distorted message, focused on a few thousand misguided, aimless, American flag dragging, spitting young people, and communist, anti-troop, anti-America speakers while all but ignoring the tens of thousands of Eagles.

If media takes a look at film they will see two drastically different pictures when looking at the anti-war crowd and Gathering of Eagles participants.....one crowd with thousands of proud American flags, the other showed a half dozen and some of them were being dragged on the ground; one crowd with unity, brother and sisterhood, patriotic fervor, the other crowd with aimless direction, vile venom of hate for America...the contrast is clear...which view do you support America?

To say the Gathering of Eagles event in Washington, D.C. was a success would be an understatement....the massive numbers of Eagles is but an indicator of the commitment of American hearts to our nation, our troops, and the fallen warriors that have sacrificed for our freedom. To have been present and experience the joy, and yes pain, the relief, the emotional roller-coaster was beyond explanation...the Gold Star Mothers, the Blue Star Moms and Dads, the Veterans in wheel chairs, tears, hugs,...........in short the anti-war movement set up a reunion for Vietnam Veterans, their widows, spouses, sons and daughters..........

The message of the day was "Welcome Home", "Never Again", "Win the War On Terror" from old warriors, young patriots, widows, spouses, and other Americans who found themselves back in the mud but loving, cherishing, every bit of it, and willing to sacrifice once again for whatever it takes..............to keep America the land of the free and home of the brave.

God bless America, our troops, their families and all Eagles in body and spirit.

You do realize that the whole case for the Iraq war was based on the state's own distortions, deceptions and betrayals of the American people, Right? I know feel good patriotism works for people like the plutocrats and thier unquestioning followers but going so far as to blame the people for the crimes of the state is kind of dishonest imho.

I tried to read the signs 777 aand I assume that it was in small print.
Quite honestly if someone told me that the United States was responsible for 9\11 I don't know if I could contain myself from responding in an unkind manner. There is a right way and a wrong way to protest. Ashes of the American Flag was disturbing, If anything was to be gotten out of this story it would be the incredible lack of respect some people have for our Flag. Our flag is a symbol of freedom and is not responsible for starting wars, wars are started by human beings and not Flags. Our Flag has gone through too many abuses and misrepresentations over the years , sadly you can only go so far to legislate respect and decency in this country.

Gathering of Eagles warm graves of fallen soldiers:

    Miracle in Washington

Gathering of Eagles, Generations of Valor

    By Judi McLeod

    Sunday, March 18, 2007

Yesterday, St. Patrick's Day 2007, a group of ordinary patriots, known nobly as The Gathering of Eagles, achieved something no one else ever could.

Ragtag by nature, Gathering of Eagles' membership includes the wounded, both walking and in wheelchairs, the gratefully and proudly ageing and the living-with-the-memory-of-lost- loved ones, brokenhearted. Some lie awake nights worrying about loved ones still in harm's way, but the one human emotion missing from Gathering of Eagle members is disillusion. All because if there was any chance the touted anti-war protesters were going to desecrate war memorials, then The Gathering of Eagles members were going to be there--no matter from how far away they had to come, no matter in what shape March 17 was to find them in.

    SNIP

Even though the counter protest was to be resoundingly successful, only snippets of what took place in Washington was to flicker briefly from yesterday's suppertime news.

But 'These Colors Don't Run', and this is what the troop-loving Move America Forward and the Gathering of Eagles accomplished against all odds.

The hundreds of thousands the anti-war movement promised did not descend on the nation's capital to mark a 40th anniversary destined never be forgotten. They numbered only in the thousands--and part of those thousands included the less protest savvy Other Side! Indeed, Fox News reported that the crowd totaled several thousand with as many from The Gathering of Eagles as from the anti-war crowd.

    SNIP

The Gathering of Eagles was in Washington to protect war memorials erected to honor the fallen and in a symbolic show of love for all living troops in harm's way.

One thing for anti-war protesters to hint at desecrating war memorials. One thing for a media to remain silent when soldiers are spit upon. Quite another to meet from the distance of right across the street, the steely-eyed glint of the veterans of real wars.
