I have a discussion I would like to initiate:

    1. Many people have maintained that the TR is the most reliable and most accurate copy of God's Holy Word. Can anyone provide bona fide links that quantify how this decision was made? To what was the TR compared to ascertain that it was indeed the "most accurate?"

    2. What about the differences between the TR and the Dead Sea Scrolls, that are much much older than the TR?

It is my hope that this is a real discussion.

Good luck getting a real discussion going.

I'm not TR-only, so I can't address the first question. As for the Dead Sea Scrolls, they contain only OT books. The TR is a NT text, so the DSS would be of no help in ascertaining its accuracy.

In my haste to post this thread, I wrote the wrong abbreviation. This should be MT, not TR.....

Was God's real word available to the
world before SABOTAGE? came out in 1979?
I know i didn't find out there was
one and only one Bible until I read
    SABOTAGE? Probably in 1980. That
was the year i tithed 10%.
    Then in 1981 I tithed 11%.
    Then in 1982 I tithed 12%.
Then in 1983 i got into memorizing scripture,
from the KJV1769 only, of course [IMG]

I have three different KJVs on my computer
desk even as I type this message.
I have six other versions also on
my computer desk. All of them are the
preserved word of God in English; each of
them is the preserved word of God in English.
So it wouldn't surprise me if there is
more than one correct families of source
texts. But i only read English, so
the various families of source texts
will be of academic interest only.

    God Bless, [IMG]

Section I of the 1964 THE BAPTIST FAITH
    AND MESSAGE:

    I. THE SCRIPTURES

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely
inspired and is the record of God's revelation
of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of
divine instruction. It has God for its author,
salvation for its end, and truth, without any
misture of error, for its matter. It reveals the
principles by which God judges us; and therefore
is, and will remain to the end of the world,
the true center of Chrsitian union, and the
supreme standard by which all human conduct,
creeds, and religious opinions should be tried.
The criterion by which the Bible is to be
    interpreted is Jesus Christ.

Amen, SBC -- Preach it! [IMG]

BTW, I might mention, i've been a member
of some Southern Baptist Convention local
church or another since 1952 [IMG]

This is why Chick Publications has no credibility. If the Puritans loved the AV so much, then why did the bring the Geneva Bible with them to the New World?

    Thank you, Brother Scott.
I'd never seen that document before.
It seems that Saint Chick believes that
KJVs with either the Apocrypha or the
    translator notes are of Satan.

The KJV1611 that i have has both
the Apocrypha and the translator notes,
    so the KJV1611 is corrupted.
The KJV1873 that I have has the
    translator notes still in it,
    so the KJV1873 is corrupted.
That leaves the KJV1769 that i have
the only true preserved written word
of God for our age. I guess they
didn't have the true preserved by God
    written word prior to 1769?

Did anybody ever notice that the
"corrumpted" source text is like 96%
like the TR? Wasn't 96% usually an "A"
    back in school? [IMG]

Someone gave me a copy of that tract a few years ago, because he knew I would find it a hoot, I'm sure. Here's the part I like (about halfway through):

Now I'm completely disillusioned. :( I have been told for years by KJV-onlyist that King James was a paragon of a Christian king, and it turns out he was secretly in league with the Jesuits against the Puritans. [IMG]

Also, I thought that these guys were supposed to be the premiere biblical scholars of their day? It looks to me like they were a committee of bumbling boobs who couldn't tell the difference between their printed Stephanus text and an ancient Roman manuscript.

Amazing we got a Bible out of these guys at all. [IMG]

The 2002 BF & M has been changed to

    I. The Scriptures

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

The following is missing; The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ.

    What ever happened to Jesus?

    Thank you, Brother gb93433.
    I don't have a BF&M2000 so can't check.
Why hasn't my local church given me a copy
    of the BF&M2000? I got my BF&M1963
    from my local church.

I can see it coming :(
Please turn to Page 27, panel 3
    of your Chick ...
Of course, pulpits will be long gone
and replaced by giant flat screen TVs ...
