    A Sellout of Our Unemployed

    By Patrick J. Buchanan

By the choices we make we define ourselves. We reveal our biases and beliefs. And so, too, do our institutions.

In writing the $789 billion stimulus bill, Congress revealed that, for all its "Buy American" blather, it does not truly put America first. It does not believe that 10 million jobless Americans, in the country their fathers built, should receive any preference in hiring 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens who broke into this country and owe her no loyalty, allegiance or love.

Is this a slur on the patriotism of some of our congressmen? You betcha.
What other conclusion can one reach after Congress refused to require that employers on construction projects, paid for by U.S. tax dollars in the stimulus bill, verify that their workers are Americans? For that is precisely what Congress did.

What did the governor of Texas say about the unemployed when he refused to take federal funding to extend unemployment? Oh, I suppose that was irresponsible and doesn't count. Tell that to the unemployed.

According to NumbersUSA, U.S. businesses have used E-Verify in 3 million inquiries this year alone. That is almost half the total of 6.6 million inquiries for all of 2008 and five times the rate of use in 2007.

E-Verify is a smashing success with an accuracy rate of over 99 percent that holds out promise of a day when every employer in America will be able to ensure that every employee is an American or someone authorized to work here. At its rising rate of use, one-fourth to one-third of all new hires could soon be checked by E-Verify.

Isn't this what we all want, what we have all sought -- an easy, verifiable, non-intrusive, inexpensive way for businesses to assure that those they hire are in our country legally?

No, it is not. For Tuesday night, the Senate voted to strip away this protection of American workers from the unfair competition of illegal aliens.

The Senate voted 50 to 47 to end E-Verify in six months, when current funding runs out. Sen. Jeff Sessions' proposal to give this successful program five more years was rejected 50 to 47.

Republicans and seven Democrats voted to save E-Verify. But only Democrats voted to kill it.
    -------------------------
The Democratic Socialist Party, working fast to bring poverty to all except the elite. ..........but one must be American to qualify for the 'special' treatment which will bring into common equality the privilege of poverty to reward the working class, for all their hard labors.

Know why in Revelation it says 'to hurt not the wine and the oil"? It's because the 'filthy' rich will be the only ones with wine in their cellars and the money to purchase and hoard the oil! They will keep their lifestyle beyond the touch of the devalued dollar and 'inflation', poverty and lack of work, and a days labor for a pitiful amount of food!

You will never address the topic under discussion when it negatively impacts your political beliefs. Well at least you didn't do your usual Bush rant.:BangHead:

    It's called fiscal responsibility.

The feds finance it for one year, and then the state is on the hook forever.

In your spare time, look up "California," and that should help you understand the need for fiscal restraint.

Sometimes it seems like our Government is busy setting up a bloody revolution in this country, like as the French Rovolution.

    Democrats are anti-American.

There can be no other reason for such a shameful vote in today's economy.

Actually, since 90% of the threads are started by the far right Republicans on this board it's basically impossible for me to support most of the topics. And with almost all the moderators in the same camp it's impossible to have a fair debate.

I hope you keep this sentiment when we begin debating the pro-union clause in the stimulus.

Repeating myself but never get a response

How many of you want your kids doing field work and killing chickens?

How many of you think my kids should be doing field work and killing chickens?

If not your kids or my kids, then who should be doing field work and killing chickens if not immigrants?

Say a Mexican citizens goes to the US embassy and says he want to go to the US to look for a job doing field work or processing chickens. Should he get a visa?

Not supporting a particular topic I can understand.

But the incessant off topic Bush bashing is a little annoying.

It would be so much more interesting if you were to more frequently address topics - even ones with which you disagree - on a more substanitive manner rather than regressing to the mindless Bush bash that has become your signature posting technique.

With the current unemployment rate do we have a shortage of workers for these jobs?

You seem to suggest that field work and killing chickens is not good enough for your children or American children but instead wish to inflict that supposed indignity upon a Mexican?

Forgive me for saying so but that sounds a bit racist.

Another question would be why do you advocate children doing this work?

I'd rather my kids, and yours, kill chickens than purposefully live off of other people's labor.

Besides...you might could hire a couple of folks to help you build all your strawmen. Looks like a full-time job.

Interesting that you should mention that- just this morning there was mention in the local news that Texas WorkForce in the Valley area of Texas has plenty of job listings for folks who WANT to work. Might not be exactly what they're looking for but jobs ain't zacly scarce as hen's teeth around these parts.

    >You seem to suggest that field work and killing chickens is not good enough for your children or American children but instead wish to inflict that supposed indignity upon a Mexican?

All honest labor is dignified. My kids didn't go to school so that they could do field work. They all now have a useful skill that is worth more than minimum wage on the job market.

My great grand parents did sweat shop work so that their kids could have a better life. My Father quit school in the 8th grade so that he could get a job and help feed his family. He self - taught himself so that I would never have to unintentionally miss a meal.

If a Mexican person can take better care of his family thinning apples in Washington State than he can by doing whatever in Mexico then I welcome him here. His family can improve their status same as my ancestors did.

30 years ago Seattle got the poorest of the poor VietNam War refugees. The American citizens who were living in the projects complained, "Theys taking our welfare." Now days their kids are are business owners and professionals. Their grandkids are earning the school academic awards.

The previously mentioned American Citizens are still living in the projects and their grandkids are hoping to become basket ball players or TV stars or pimps or whatever.

And what of the U.S. citizens living in Washington State wanting to improve their status. Why would you deny them the same opportunity?

As I asked before - with the current unemployment rate is there a labor shortage for these jobs?

    "Theys taking our welfare." ????

    "Hoping to become... pimps..."????

    WOW !!!

    Racism is ugly.

You are not presenting a good face for a Christian.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

That we don't pay people to do nothing with our grandkids wages. Pretty sensible statement if you actually think about it.
