Wow, seems we learn something new everyday. Now, calling Mr. Obama by his middle name signifies that you are a disobedient christian.
Absolutely amazing! Talk about a stretch!

Perhaps you can fill out your case then.

Tell us one reason to use Mr. Obama's middle name that is not a cynical and decidedly un-Christain attempt to establish an otherwise unsubstantiated connection between Mr. Obama and America's enemies, or to appeal to xenophobia.

Just one will suffice. And please remember, the use of the middle name is not typical when referring to candidates - we do not hear it for Mrs. Clinton, nor for Mr. McCain.

This post seems to be getting sidetracked over Obama's stupid middle name. His middle name is becoming a red herring. His association with Rev Wright is the issue here. Hating whites is the issue here. Black liberation Theology is the issue here. Wright is an ardent follower of James Cone's theology of black liberation. The family tree would look something like this:

    Malcomb X
    James Cone
    Jeremiah Wright
    Barak Obama

    Think about it.

You know as well as I do, it isn't the fact of using his middle name...it is the reason for doing so that is at issue.

Do you not see the irony here?

It is precisely the use of Mr. Obama's middle name of "Hussein" that discloses a degree of "us versus them" mentality - a subtle yet real attempt to establish an illicit (unsubstantiated) association between Mr. Obama and the sinister forces that threaten America.

So while Rev. Wright needs to be dealt with, I think the very beliefs and attitudes that make Wright a divisive and destructive force are made manifest every time we hear the phrase "Barrack Hussein Obama".

    From Wikipedia:

Whether anyone likes it or not or thinks it's proper of not, the name does mean something. As has been pointed out previously in this thread, names also mean something to God Almighty. This is evidenced throughout the OT. NT case in point is Saul, who, after having his heart changed by Jesus Christ, was changed to Paul.

Yes, names mean something. Remember the Christian teacher who was thrown in jail in Sudan for naming a teddy bear Mohammed? Obviously, the name Mohammed (a revered Muslim name like Hussein) means something. As a Christian, to have a candidate running for the most powerful position in the world with a middle name of Hussein means something, and I find it offensive that he (if he truly is a Christian as he claims and others believe) would not change his Muslim name to embrace his new found faith. There is nothing wrong with questioning his name or his motives - he is running for the most powerful position on the planet and I have a right to question anything and everything about him, his past, his associates, and his motives because he is running under the banner of Christianity and under the flag of the USA. Everything about him is subject to scrutiny because he is running for President - including his muslim name!

    Not true!

Nowhere does Scripture say Saul had his name changed to Paul.

This is one 'spiritual-sounding lie' that should be forever banished to the dung heap!

In fact, Scripture says he is called by both names.

We call my grandson by his middle name to avoid even more confusion by having 3 Roberts. I wonder if we're being disobedient by using his middle name.
I have to say, to think theres a problem with using a persons middle name, to think it's a disobedient christian is ridiculous.

Using a person middle name is quite common, no matter who they are.
I wonder does he approve of his middle name? If so there should be no problem using it.
You take offense because not only does it have an unchristian menaing, but his words and actions back up the unchristian meaning.

Well then, Donna, if it is not the act of disobedient Christian to repeatedly use the middle name "Hussein", when the middle names of the other candidates are (basically) never used, then perhaps you can complete this sentence (if you believe is the act of an obedient Christian to use Mr. Obama's middle name):

"I use Mr. Obama's middle name of "Hussein" because......."

I look forward to your answer.

Untrue in the relevant context. I challenge you to refer to me any commentator's use of Mrs. Clinton's middle name of "Diane" and compare it to my findings in respect to the name "Hussein" in respect to Mr. Obama.

In fact, I will make it easy on you. If you can find, in public dialoque of any kind, whether on the web or in the press, references to the use of all the other candidates who were ever part of this race, that adds up to even half of the references that I find in respect to Mr. Obama's middle name, then I will concede your point.

    I'll get the ball rolling:

Number of google hits on "Hussein Obama" = 1,910,000

Number of google hits on "Diane Clinton" or "Diane Rodham Clinton" = 82,630

    Ratio: 23 to 1.

Barak is a derivative of Barakat. Both are islamic names. If you want to tie him to Islam just call him Barak. The middle name is not necessary for this.

Your politics are, to a degree, everyone's business. George Bush's "Yee-hawd" in Iraq has an effect on the entire world.

In any event, perhaps you would care to answer a question which has hitherto gone unanswered:

Nowhere after Acts is he known by the name of Saul. After Acts, he is not called by both names, only Paul. So banish what you will to the dung heap, he is not called by both names after Acts.

Whatever. Back to the OP, Hussein is a Muslim name and does not reflect Obama's rejection of islam.

Furthermore, according to Islam, once you are born a muslim if your father was a muslim, you cannot renounce islam - once a muslim, always a muslim. The punishment for apostates according to sharia law is death.

In that light, one would think that a "former" muslim as US President would no doubt be an added security risk dealing with muslims in foreign affairs and on official state visits to muslim nations.

I disagree. I don't see anything wrong with using the candidates entire name or calling attention to it. Obama name's is the name that was given to him and the fact that his middle name is of Muslim orgin is not without reason or interest. It doesn't prove anything but his family origin and childhood learning has always been of interest just as has been his adult life. The same holds true for all the candiates.

An argument could be made that to ignore, hide, or change Obama's middle name could also signal the political purpose to obscure his connection to Muslim family roots.

Senator Obama had no input as to his first, middle, or last names. Unlike Senator McCain and his seeking of the endorsement of John Hagee, hiring aides tied to the military junta in Burma, and his support for not overturning Roe v. Wade.

Senator Obama had no input as to what his roots are. Unlike Senator McCain who had been an opponent of waterboarding and then changed his position when it came to a vote in order to be in the good graces of the radical right-wing in this country.
