One of you is not telling the truth or does not know the truth.

Your point reminds me of the time I had a discussion with a fellow teacher years ago. He was always good at telling kids they were great and making them smile, but seldom encouraged them to do any better. The first year I taught, my students took the first three places in a competition among the high schools. I had many of the same students he had. The school had not been to a competition in 8 years. During my time there, my classes almost doubled in size while at the same time I required a lot from my students. Students enjoyed winning but it was the parents who often told me that I expected too much. I learned that students will work hard and perform well, if they are encouraged to do well, but it is their parents who are often lazy and expect little. The teacher who slapped the students on the back and told them good things did little to help them do better. So they seldom did very well.

Too many Christians today justify their behavior and way of life by comparing themselves to others. It is not how we compare to others but how we compare to Christ.

Certainly we must not judge others but we must help people to do their best. The Bible says we are to encourage one another. Ignoring the truth does nothing to help anyone.

I know the professor in that article and know that there were times when he did not eat because he could not afford it. He came to the U.S. because some faculty members paid his way and helped him while he was here.

Shall we eat and celebrate instead of giving to others who have a need greater than ours? Shall we be like Amos 6 talks about?

Ever look at the spiritual condition of the country then? Roaring 20s and some others.

It is only in these deceptive times, that we are being brainwashed into thinking that “thin is in”.[/quote]Healthy should be in. Bad health never lengthens a person's time in service. My brother-in-law's dad decided to lose weight and all of his physical problems went away. He had diabetes among several other things. There was a time when his health was so bad that he was not expected to live very long. He lost the weight and lived for many years more. He told me after losing all of the weight that he could not believe how much better he felt.

If God has called a man to preach/pastor, and that man meets the qualifications set forth in God's word, who am I to add to that?

Jesus was completely perfect yet folks still criticized him. You could give a church the most wonderful, dedicated pastor on earth and someone would still find something to nit pick about. If he's practically perfect, then they will nitpick his wife and kids half to death.

It's amazing to me, as a pastor's wife, how church folks seem to think pastors and their families should hold to a higher standard that they themselves cannot possibly meet. Pastors are human just like everybody else. Please don't put them on a pedastool and then criticize when they can't live up to your unbiblical expectations.

Let's all watch "Biggest Loser" this season... It is on NBC on Tuesday nights... at 8 pm
My wife and I got hooked on it last season...

They give a lot of healthy tips..

Of course, I felt kinda hypocritical watching the show, and eating a bowl of popcorn!...

    Or was it Ice cream?

    lol

Anyway, the season just started this past Tuesday, and there is one boy on there over 400 lbs.

I offer this warning: IF you are a big fat king beware of left-handed men with a sword on the right side.

    Cheers,

    Jim

That's the trouble with antiquated versions -- you have to retranslate to make sense of a given passage at times.

Ps.22:29a:"All the rich of the earth will feast and worship..." (TNIV)

Why would the authorized weight for a GI be considered as a standard for a preacher? For one thing a GI is a lot younger than most pastors.

Dr.David M.Lloyd-Jones said that he thought ugly men were more suited for the ministry.I didn't regard him as being particularly ugly though.One-eyed Christmas Evans comes to mind however.Spurgeon regared him as the best preacher of the first half of the 19th century (along with William Jay and Joseph Irons).

They didn't have the U.S. Army height and weight standards to help guide their choices for a pastor, otherwise they would never have found a pulpit to preach from.

    peace to you:praying:
