    It would seem to me that Scripture disagrees with you when it tells us to be ready in and out of season to give a defense for our faith.

    You have mixed up two different passages, but I get your meaning. As I read Scripture, we are to give an answer for the hope which lies within us, and we are to preach the word in season and out of season. Nothing there about defending truth.

    According to my software, there are no passages about "defense of the truth".

    Yes we are to earnestly contend for the faith, but I do not understand it as 'defend the truth' per se.

    Simply speak the truth, God will quicken it to the hearts which are ploughed enough to receive it. And speaking of ploughing, that is the Holy Spirit's office.

    Jesus is the Truth, yes? Did He bother defending Himself, or did He simply speak the truth?

    But men are not Truth. Considering God's Word and one's interpretation of God's Word as equally unquestionable is dangerous and a cop-out.

    II Tim. 2:24-25
    And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

    Actually we are to contend for the faith! This is being willing to assert against opposition!

    '....exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.' Jude 3,4

    We are to be ready to do battle to protect and preserve the Truth as delivered to us in scripture, not to just tolerate whatever comes along without objection and/or clarification. People make mistakes, weave error into doctrines and this must be remedied.
