further scrutiny of the NIV by WORLD magazine:

Abortion advocates are weaponizing the New International Version’s translation of Numbers 5:27
    NIV2011, Numbers 5
26 The priest is then to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial offering and burn it on the altar; after that, he is to have the woman drink the water.
27 If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse.

"The 2011 NIV is an outlier among translations of the Numbers passage. When we asked for interviews with the NIV translation team through Biblica, the NIV copyright holder, it sent us a statement pointing to examples of God’s judgment affecting children, including the death of David’s child in 2 Sam. 12 and the children of Achan in Josh. 7."

"The only other translation WORLD found that inserts the word 'miscarry' is the relatively little-used Common English Bible, also published in 2011."

"Bruce Waltke is a member of the NIV Committee on Bible Translation....now writing a commentary on the Psalms for the Gospel Coalition...he called the translation 'sensible'."

"What about using the translation to justify abortion? He replied, 'A person [who] wants to believe that is going to believe it'."

Atheists use the Old Testament practices, which do not apply to humankind under the New Covenant, to attack Christianity. The answer is that God does not, and has never supported, a mothers right to kill her baby.

As far as the ambiguous meaning of the effect of the curse, the idea seems to be that the women becomes barren, but if innocent, she remains fertile. Reading abortion into the text is unwarranted.

The majority of those targeted are not even married. Do they perform weddings immediately prior to this other procedure? They are planned parenthood...
