are there TV shows you will not watch?

Programs such as Bewitched, Sabrina - the Teenage Witch, from Boston Legal to Hana Montana?
What are your reasons - please be specific.

Are there shows you will watch but not let your kids watch? At what age would you let them start watching?

    Salty

ps Mrs Salty and I have no kids so...

I will not watch those "adult" cartoons.... South park, Simpsons, etc. They are vulgar and inappropriate for my adult mind.

We never censored what our children could watch. We did attend when they were watching the telly and freely discussed what was viewed.

    Cheers,

    Jim

and theres something else Robert watched once we decided it was nasty, I don't recall the name. Basically any adult cartoons.
We do not watch Desperate Housewives, it's all about sex and whose having whose baby.
We do not watch wife swap. Women should take care of their familes and not run off for 2 weeks and leave their families with strangers who obviously do not have the same morals, and wh will make new rules for your children telling them it's ok to do what you've told them not too. Not to mention sleeping in the same house with a stangre man for 2 weeks.
Anything whose theme is sex, or homos*xuality, or satan worship.

We are very careful about what our kids watch. Simpsons, The Family Guy etc are off limits to anyone in our house. We do not let them watch Fairly Odd Parents or any of those witch programs. There is just no good reason to see those programs. And you certainly cannot thank God for having seen them.

Perhaps it would be easier to ask people what they do watch, instead of what they don't - at least in my house. My girls and I are so busy that we don't have much time for TV, which is a total blessing.

Most of what is on is such a total waste of time, and there's where I see the sin. If it is not profitable, than why watch it? We like documentaries that don't push Darwinism, movies that have a Christian emphasis, and a few cartoons that aren't over the top with demon-like creatures roaming around. We used to watch Amazing Race for fun and for adults 24 was a suspense-thriller show but never watched them regularly, so I'm not sure how clean either of them are.

Night time TV is the pits. So that's why my computer is better entertainment, i. e. this forum. :D

I heard that some of these forums are x-rated....warning, some arguments are not meant for adult ears, and should be taken with a grain of salt..............oh, maybe that was wishful thinking,,sorry.

    Cheers,

I won't watch "Monk", because the main character reminds me of the VA mental patients I worked around for 28 years in a psychiatric hospital.

I won't watch "House", because of the rude, over-bearing, obnoxious doctor by that name.

I won't watch "The Shield" about a PI (I think--I only saw 5 minutes of it), because I tried watching the first episode and heard the main character use God's name in vain at the beginning of the show twice. I didn't want to find out how many more times he would say it in that show.

I don't like talk shows, soap operas, reality shows, or sitcoms.

    I LOVE Sci Fi!

When at home if I have an afternoon free I'll watch a couple of the British comedies and Sit-Coms on PBS. I especially like "Creatures Great and Small", stores from the vet. James Herrott.

I also like the New Hour. They go into depth on issues with people on both sides.

Also on PBS I like the Mystery series and also Master Piece Theater.

Our kids are in their 20s, but we did not allow the adult cartoons of the time or MTV. I pretty much watch the History Channel, TV Land, Discovery, Sci-Fi, and sometimes news, weather, and business.

No, had they been growing up at the time, I would have had no problem letting my kids watch Bewitched. It was a harmless comedy, and most of all, clean humor.

I put a moratorium on broadcast television (including cable) in my home last April. I'll allow Saturday morning cartoons and sometimes the local news. The programing, including the commercials, is steeped in sensuality if not outright anti-Christ propaganda.

I don't think you can say anymore that the kids can watch anything as long as we watch it with them! So much of what is on is filthy. Every once in a while I'll turn on a show the kids at school say they are watching - like HOUSE - and wonder if their parents do know what is in the show.

The few shows I do watch (like Lost), I probably wouldn't if the kids weren't grown.

Even the cartoons these days are filled with adult situation (not necessarily sex) that I do not want my kids knowing about. My kids watch a few things on Disney, some of the ABCFamily channel, nothing on PBS (although I do watch the Antiques Road Show).

The bulk of my telly time is on the Animal Planet, History Channel and then I am glued to actual Brit shows.

The other shows I never miss are the five or so pictures put on by Hallmark each year. They are always very realistic stories and always end on a high note, even when the outcome is poorly.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I watch sports (esp NFL). But I'm old, so have a list of "old folks" favorites:

    Weather Channel
History Channel (see lots of friends)
Food Channel (love Guy and never watch Emerill)
Discovery (Dirty Jobs is about the dirtiest show we watch) Channel
    Some Lifetime, Hallmark, etc

But we TiVo a number of network shows to watch at liesure - like ER or Law & Order or CSI or Numbers

My kids pretty much censor themselves nowdays, with our guidance sometimes as needed. Pretty much they don't need us.

The oldest doens't watch House because the lead character is an egomanical, arrogant *&^%$^^* (word that can't be used on the BB) and other two take her at her word.

The youngest wouldn't get to watch Hannah Montana if the oldest had her way about it. The reason being something about the youngest having enough attitude and she doesn't need to learn anymore from HM. I personally haven't any attitudes coming from HM and had much rather the youngest watch HM than Zoey 101 (Jamie Lynn Spears). However after the oldest explained to the youngest just why (exactly) Jamie Lynn wasn't a good role model, the youngest decided on her own not to watch the show. (for my own part, I told her that actors act and that if Jamie Lynn instead served burgers for a living we wouldn't have questioned how she got pregnant. The only reason her pregnancy was a big deal was because people put "stars" on a pedastal. Events like her pregnancy are why we shouldn't use actors for role models.)

There is really only one thing that is banned from the house and that is MTV/VH1 and all their variations. I can find nothing remotely useful from their content. My children agree having been subjected to it at the homes of acquaintences.

Well, since I live in the country and we don't even have cable in the area,(yup, I are a redneck), I guess after Feb. 17, 2009, I won't be seeing anything on T.V. I can't stand to watch any of the trash they put on nowadays, since not only do they lack any imagination but they can't even tell a decent story.
I'll just stick with my DVDs and a weather alert radio.
