    I don't know.

Personally, as with any organization or individual sometimes I agree with their stances and sometimes I don't.

The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees:

Your First Amendment rights - freedom of speech, association and assembly; freedom of the press, and freedom of religion.

Your right to equal protection under the law - equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.

Your right to due process - fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake.

Your right to privacy - freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs.

I can't see any way that allowing a Bible based textbook could be construed as "establishing a national religion". Some of us are thoroughly brainwashed.

The ACLU is one of the most evil forces ever imposed on America. They and the NEA have worked hard to prevent Christianity from reaching the public, especially children.

This is almost certainly not going to display Christ as King, but, if you read the synopsis on the book, it allows for students to read from the Bible of their choice:

    from the synopsis:
Heb. 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

If we believe this verse from Heb. 4:12, we should be thrilled that perhaps some child/ren that would otherwise never open a Bible, will now do so.

But if that happens in any real numbers, the ACLU will be all over it, IMO if it gets that far.

And no, I would not want another "religion", or other text, such as the book of Mormon, or Koran allowed. I'd love to hear an apologist speak to this issue.

That argument though widely held is fallacious, because nothing but God's Word is true. And the 1st amendment doesn't speak to that issue either, though revisionists have deemed it so.

The ACLU's goal is socialism, not freedom.

    Much ado about nothing.

This is a high school elective text. I doubt more than a half dozen high schools in the entire state have enough students to qualify expending a teaching unit on this subject.

The book itself was sent through state board approval of a list of 3000 textbooks submitted for board approval (vetted no doubt by some committee somewhere) and some of the board members apparently didn't even read the list carefully enough to know it was on there.

You should also know that just because some makes the state board's approval list doesn't mean it will make a local districts approval list. Each district in the state is responsible for the final text choices that it's board approves for school use. I doubt very much that this text will make to many of those.

then there is the whole issue of whether or not a student wishes to take this as an elective. Students are given free choice over their electives and these electives cover the gamut of subjects. It can be anything from band or drama to creative writing/yearbook staff, to computer courses, to vocational courses. This will be just one more elective in the bunch and if enough kids don't sign up for it, it'll be dropped.

Btw, the ACLU hasn't done nearly enough in my opinion to stop some of Bush's more radical ideas. There should have never been a Patriot Act to begin with.
