    Standingfirm,

I think you are allowing YOUR desires to shape your interpretation.

1 Peter 2:9 says nothing about wine.

Prov 31 says that kings should not drink wine - but that those of a heavy heart should be given wine. That would seem to imply it is OK for one to drink when he is sad and needs to forget for awhile.

The message of all scripture is that drunkenness is sin - that is true.

Regarding the fermented wine thing - why do you think that Jesus and others in the Bible drank wine? It's because it didn't get contaminated by bacteria. Of course it was fermented wine. "oinos" and "yayin" mean WINE. They can refer to grape juice in the setting of that being made into wine.

I agree with you that alcoholic drinks are not good things and that the world would be a better place without them. And I certainly think that Christians today must be very cautious to not hurt the church's testimony.

But you cannot assert with ANY biblical support or factual evidence that Jesus and others in the Bible didn't drink alcoholic wine. They did so so that they would not get dysentery!

You have posted no such scripture. What little scripture you ahve posted has been demonstrated to not support your position.
Once again, your lack of scriptural comprehension is demonstrated. Prov 31 comments on abuse, not simple comsumption. It says to refraining from being in a position of forgetting the decrees of the law to cause the oppressed to be deprived of their rights. You're further incorrect that it referrs to us in regards to royalty. It expressly is the sayings of Lemuel, who is orating what his mother taught him. It referrs expressly to literal kings and rulers, not believers in general. In fact, one verse in the chapter that that does speak to people in general reads "let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more", which directly contradicts your supposition.

You are correct that "Jesus made alcoholic wine" is not found in Scripture. It only says Jesus made the BEST WINE. Isaiah 25:6 has God telling us which wine is the BEST....THE WELL AGED WINE. Give me one instance where the best, well aged wine is non alcoholic! Ask wine connesieur's if you like.

Like I said, I am not a "drinker", I have an occasional margarita. I do not feel it is bad.
I do not "lust after" it, but I DO lust after
chips and salsa....is that a sin? probably. [IMG]

Can one say law permits the drink
For only one is not the brink
Of drunkenness, but two or three
will be too much and drunk I'll be.
But Ron did quote the Bible Word
To allow just one would be absurd
For when the wise man wrote, 'Look not'
I'm sure he knew one led to a lot.
For laws of man on earthly sod
Compare not with the laws of God.
Touch not that drink and leave it be
    And live for Christ eternally

The drunkard started with just one sip
As he raised the can up to his lip
One more he said, it's not that bad
Those preachers lie, it makes me glad
And then his words begin to slur
The vision has the slightesst blur
But he can't see that mocking wine
Has caused the man to lose his mind.
And then he gets behind the wheel
Man cannot tell me how I feel
I'm driving home, was that a bump
Oh well, I'm sure that was just a clump
Of dirt, or maybe dog or cat
It's too late now, I'm sure it's flat
While on the road in a pool of blood
A child cries out, Please help me God
The drunk drives on and wonders why
The neighbors said, 'Don' let him drive'

Your verse though true will not affect
Those who chose to God's Word reject,
When they eat their steaks and drink their swill
Their "christian" testimony is what they kill.
