    Vote your beliefs.

I don't know how anyone that says they are a follower of Christ could cast a vote for a pro abortion, pro sodomite candidate. Those are not the only issues but they are the start.

I'd add to that: Vote YOUR beliefs, not someone else's. And for goodness sake, vote only YOUR conscience. Don't try to get someone else to vote your conscience. The political season is when Christians tend to sin most, and not even realize it. They do this by judging their brethren based on whom the other person is likely to vote for.
Again, I don't think it's appropriate to judge the brethren based on what's at the top of your or my priority list. These issues are important, to be sure, but each person must decide for themselves.

I agree JohnV, everyone should vote their beliefs, But God will hold His children more responsible for their vote than the unbeliever.

(I think it's dangerous, improper, and presumptuous to make judgements about fellow church folks who are not of the same political party that we/I might be. Not to mention, it makes a mockery of the Gospel. The Gospel is about uniting, not dividing. Political partisanship, otoh, by its nature, divides. I would no more distance myself from a Democrat than I would a Yankees fan (well, except for during the World Series, maybe).)

That's what I like........a man with true grit!! "sarcasm" Just what we need in both the GOP and the Baptist Church. The questioned was asked if Baptists were Republicans. The answer is ALL CHRISTIANS SHOULD BE! There are some things in the party that are wrong, it's up to us to change them.

Ridiculous! That's as biblically inappropriate as saying that all Christians should be KJVO. Not only is it an offense to devout Christians to are members of the Democratic Party, but it is equally an offense to Christians who are members of the Constitution party, or who are voting Independent. It elevates membership in a political party to a religion. It's tantamount to 21st century McCarthyism, not to mention borderline idolatry (or in this case, party-olatry). Sorry, but the Republican Party is not my religion. Nor is any other party. Political parties are there for our benefit, not the other way around. It's best we remember that.

I would never, NEVER be a member of a church that requires membership in any political party or similar affiliation.

From TEATIME who started this topic: I want to thank all of you who wrote so far. I appreciate your input! Many of you are correct in saying that Republicans (and Democrats) are not the be-all and end-all of anything Christian. Discernment and examination is needed when it comes to certain issues (abortion, gay marriage, etc). All any Christian can do is to prayerfully each man (or woman) for office and vote for the better choice. [IMG]

I am a Democrat! That not to say that I always vote for the democratic candidate, but I still consider myself a Democrat.

Was a REP, but now will no longer vote or care. We need a third party "system", but that won't happen for many many years if ever. This nation has always been a two party system even during the Wigs time. To vote third party is to still vote for the stronger of the two main parties running.

Bush murders for oil, and maybe that is good for America, but bad for Christians.
    Kerry, is another Ted Kennedy.

There is no party for the Christian Community this time around. But I would rather have queers getting married rather than killing humans for oil. Truly, we have to pick the better of two evils this time around.

I am a Baptist and Republican, but i can't for the life of me, understand why we control both the leg. and exec. branches but are too afraid to outlaw abortion.

I am becoming disappointed in all politicians.
They will say anything to get elected but when in office do nothing about what really matters.

And while I'm on this subject, If we are at war with terror, why is Bush afraid to go after Hamas.

We should be supporting Isreal in their fight against terrorists.

And I like Bush as President.

    enough said.

It’s simple folks….. If they’re for abortion, I’m not going to vote for them….. Strike one on Kerry and liberalism……. If they’re for same sex marriage, or what Kerry calls unions, I’m not going to vote for him….. Strike two on Kerry….. If they’re for women’s movements, etc, etc….. I’m not voting for him…. Kerry, you’re OUT……..

The truth is right before your eyes, don’t be blind to it…. We’re living in the days where evil is called good and good is called evil…. People will vote their pocketbook, but turn a deaf ear to those dying and crying in abortion clinics….

    Tiny Tim,

I would suggest that it has nothing to do with fear. It has much more to do with elections and big pensions. Abortion makes a good fundraiser, and a good "issue" to sucker gullible Christians out of their votes on election day. Why end it?

We have a mix of Republicans and Democrats in my church. Don't ask me why. The good part is there are no political endorsements from the pulpit. The only time my pastor speaks of political parties is to encourage everyone to exercise their freedom to vote.

I think it is good that there are no endorsements from the pulpit. But I also think that our pastors, on average, have dropped the ball in teaching their congregations how Biblical teaching addresses civil government, and related matters.
