    Great points. One of the issues I have with conservatives is that we often paint the "other side" in such a horrible fashion but fail to understand they are nice people. Thus, when people read nice people like Bultmann, and realize he had some great ideas and was a wonderful man, they are taken back. All their life they have painted these people with horns and breathing fire, but when they read them and find out they were extremely intelligent, were very caring, and didn't breathe fire then our congregations/children/students fail to see the horrible nature of their beliefs.

    We would be better off showing liberals as nice people who are very mistaken in what they believe.

    You can be nice and a heretic at the same time or orthodox and a complete jerk. Yet, teaching our congregations and children this difference is essential to creating discerning people.
