Am I the only one who is amazed that an issue like this is so divisive to the body of Christ? The Word of God (any version) says nothing about translations. Why is this a fight?

Because some people feel that they have been permitted by God to add to his revealed doctrine.

Interesting that this issue is not important in other countries (though I'm told that some US missionaries have decided that there is a Spanish version that is inspired, hold to it only, & are teaching nationals this doctrine and causing division). What is it about the good ol' USA that allows/causes this issue to develop here?

If something is precious to you, you will fight over it as well.

BTW, I use only the AV in preaching and personal study (with an occassional look at the NKJV for help). I just don't see how this issue is causing rifts in the Body.

This issue is causing “rifts” in the body when a KJVO looks at an MV proponent and perceives him/her to be the enemy. It also occurs when a MV proponent looks at a KJVO and views them as the enemy. The Word of God clearly declares that flesh and blood is not the enemy.
Eph 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (KJV)

The issue is pride. The Bible is also very clear about this truth.
Proverbs 13:10 Only by pride cometh contention : but with the well advised is wisdom.
    (KJV)

When someone tells a KJVO that their Bible is not the only Word of God, or even the best translation of the Word of God, they respond with pride and haughtiness and declare that their Bible is indeed the true Word of God and the only reliable translation available today. How dare anyone be so bold as to question God’s Word?

When a KJVO tells a MV proponent that their Bible is a counterfeit, they respond with pride and arrogance and declare that no translation is the representation of the originals. How dare anyone be that narrow-minded and ignore all the modern textual evidence we have today?

A certain retort could be that one side responds with truth, the other side with misguided faith or misinformation. Both sides could make this argument I suppose. The point is, regardless of which “side” you’re on, the true enemy – “rulers of the darkness of this world” – have succeeded in dividing the ranks of believers into King James –vs- Modern Versions and never the two shall meet.

My responsibility to the Word of God as a child of God is to hide God’s Word in my heart, to meditate therein day and night, to use it as a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path, to use it as a mirror to correct the faults in my own life, and to share it’s truths with my fellow man in an attempt to win the lost and edify the saved. When we can properly fulfill our responsibilities to God's Word, then we might have enough time make an issue out of which version my neighbor is using.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t study the issue and seek God’s face in the matter. We should all be convinced that what we hold in our hands is the Word of God. When we’ve found God's Word, it will not produce arrogance, pride, superiority, or a false sense of self-importance; it will produce humility and an outpouring of gratitude toward God that He has entrusted us with such a special gift.

    PB,

I am glad to hear you hit the nail on the head. Pride is the source of all conflict. I may have very strong views on this issue and have the right to defend and expound them, but so often this debate truns into name calling and victriolic attacks. That is sin!

The fault of the schism over English translations, though, lies more heavily on the part of one side of the debate.

As soon as one side says "ONLY" and that all others are "PERVERSIONS", they have devised a new doctrinal teaching that demands a reaction.

Now, of course, I won't say WHICH side is more at fault . .

It´s coming here in Germany. There are many christian who ask themselves why the two German major translations (Luther and Elberfelder) are so extremely different (and believe me, they are). So they look for answers... PLUS there is a new revision of another popular german Bible that is based on the TR only (NT). So people begin to ask questions and in Germany this issue is very new... the only answer they can get here is a publication by CHICK Germany...
