“Boar War!” the New York Post headline screamed on Wednesday, a reference to Sen. Barack Obama’s comment on Tuesday that “You can put lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig.”

    More Here

*Note: I do not believe Obam inteneded to call Palin a pig. But the point of this thread is to show yet another gaff by Obama. He seems to be stacking them up. The pressure seems to be getting to him.

While I think the McCain-Palin people are overdoing the victim thing a bit on this and other attacks, it is deliciously ironic that it was the liberals who created this whole politically-correct culture that props up this victimhood mentality and the virtual prohibition of speaking against a "protected" class like women, minorities, etc. This is why the liberals don't have an answer for Palin. They're flumoxed, because they realize that in the politically-correct environment they created, Palin can play the gender card till the cows come home, and there is nothing the liberals can do to counter it. Too funny.

This was a very stupid thing to say. He doesn't appear to be very smart.

    Actually the reference is biblical.
As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion. Proverbs 11:22
But did you hear the way the crowd yelled and applauded? They knew who the comment was aimed at.
Obama really messed up here. For someone who was saying things like "a negative attack never fed a hungry child" he is being very hypocritical.

Yeah, I agree with Rev in that I don't think he was intentionally speaking about Palin being a pig.....but how can you not write that line and think nobody will take it that way?!

    Poor choice of words.

A bit, this woman is running for the second highest office in the world and worries about a comment like this. What happens when she hits the international eye? Does she expect Putin and other world leaders to be sensitive to her gender? This to me is more reason why she shouldn't be in office. Hillary took it when McCain used the same phrase about her health plan.

In all practicality the liberal should have to answer to Palin since she has yet to say anything. We know nothing about her abilities to be VP except her past exaggerated achievements in Alaska, a state with less population than cities in other states. She has the majority vote based purely on popularity which tells me how America really votes and explains why we're in the shape we're in.

Edited to add... We are close to voting day, it would be nice to hear her say something other than that same speech. I sure hope America doesn't fall for this trick of putting someone into office whose given the same speech over and over...

How will they avoid it? Surely you recognize that Obama and Biden aren't saying anything different than they have always said. They have no change.

In this comment, Obama knew exactly what he was saying and it is beyond unconscionable. It was a reference to her comment in her speech at the RNC. The women of America should be up in arms about this, just as they would be had it been made about Hillary. But the truth is that there is a double standard, even here on the BB. People will defend the indefensible because it agrees with their politics.

The McCain campaign is simply using the opportunity as politcal fodder in a heated campaign, nothing more. I don't think Palin's reaction has anything to do with how she would handle international affairs. If you want to use this situation as an example for that, then you need to turn the tables and think of how stupid it was for Obama to say what he said, and how such stupidity will not translate well in foreign affairs and governing the nation, etc. Fact is, I think this whole situation is a rather silly thing to be judging either candidate on.

Everything you just said about Palin can be said of Obama...and he's at the top of his ticket! Are you sure that you want to keep this argument up?

Congress is all about pork so it's very reasonable that they'd be really interested in pigs with or without lipstick.

Basically she keeps giving the same speech over and over, will not take questions, and will not talk to reporters unless it is "off the record."

The comment reminds me of Dong Xiao Ping who was thrown in jail by Mao for saying, "It does not matter if the cat is white or black as long as it catches mice."
He was referring to economics and that it did not matter if the system was Communist or Capitalist as long as it provided for the people.

Yep, and we women knew who he meant no matter how much he tries to joke it off and downplay it. What a jerk.

    I think I will design a t-shirt that says "I wear lipstick and I'm not a pig. Vote McCain-Palin."

In my personal opinion, anyone who supports the aerial shooting of wolves is, rhethorically, a pig - and that includes Sarah Palin.

If Sarah Palin can't handle that criticism, well. that's too bad for her.

You need to take that down, KenH. You are rhetorically calling me and the whole country of Canada pigs.

KenH, so you admit, that's what Obama meant. And the rest of us who support Sarah Palin are pigs, too? That is really over the top.

I don't know that Sarah Palin has responded to Obama's pig comment. If you find a link where she couldn't handle it, please post it. Thanks.

I haven't heard the quote is context so i don't know and I really don't care.

Sarah Palin is a despicable human being and she will never, ever get my vote for any office she runs for.

So? That's what they all do. Obama and Biden and McCain are no different. It doesn't matter what the question is, they are going to give their rehearsed stump answer.

But I am not sure what your little story has to do with this though

This stupid cliche has been overblown. I just saw a video clip of McCain saying the EXACT SAME CLICHE regarding HILLARY CLINTON and her health plan.....and Obama using the same thing again regarding something of Bush.

It is a cliche. Nobody thinks Palin is a pig. Stop searching for stuff to slam people over, it's the beginning of turning to the dark side of politics.

Why has Ken's flame not been deleted ?

Dan E, Ken has called us pigs.

To me, anyone who will vote for a baby killer like Obama, and then cry over wolves is not letting the Holy Spirit lead them.
