least at lunch time. It's traditional for the students at Christ's Hospital, West Sussex to march into lunch. The band's good and their drill would put many an active duty unit to shame. FYI, the preparatory command "By the Right" is telling which side of the Formation to guide on. In Commonwealth drill, a formation can just as easily guide on the left or on the center file.

Me, if I was a DI at Parris or San Diego, I'd have half a mind to show this clip to my newbies. I'd tell them these school kids can march better them they do. Another FYI, the "rolling" column right and lefts are the British Forces standard.

This is a feel good story. Not every thread on this forum has to be negative.

This is akin to Paul Harvey's The Rest of the Story.

As an old grunt I gotta love the John Phillip Sousa march.

The guide-ons were all at "guide right." Good job.

We also did the left turn that way. The left column did a half-step on the turn, the center two did a three quarter step with the left-center doing slightly less than the right center, and the right column did a full step.

Column Left (or Right) was much more complicated. And dumb grunts don't do "complicated." :D

Through the label on another clip of a lunch parade, the groups are the students are grouped by the different residence halls. Good night, do those ladies look fierce.

At 2:15, someone lost a shoe and the section didn't miss a step.

IIRC, in boot, the interior file squared the turn at the corner.

Does every thread have to be about a topic that is as serious as a heart attack?

Watched this another time, the house leaders sound like young gunnery sergeants.

This reminded me of my first summer camp as a Marine Reservest as a senior in HS.
First full day having drill, & I was doing OK w/all the moves until ---- I heard a crisp command "REAH, HARCH"!!
Never heard that before then, but you can bet your boots that I learned how to execute that command pronto.
Fact, I was probably the sharpest guy in my platoon on that one move from then on!:Thumbsdown:eek:

Further, this forum is something akin to an American Legion\VFW post. So, we sit around and talk about matters of interest. In this case, we have:
    • a quality "high school" band playing Semper Fidelus (the USMC lullaby)
    • students in their school uniform marching with the polish of a Guards regiment or the Marines at 8th & I.
    • the (to me) incongruous sounding commands of the house leaders middle teens. Gentleman tenors and lady sopranos (depending on the house) commanding their charges with all the seriousness of a Marine Gunnery or a British Colour SGT.
IOW, it's something to bring a smile to your face.

]This today, the band is playing Sussex by the Sea. SbtS is the regimental march of the Royal Sussex Regiment which became the county march for County Sussex.
