Has anyone ever used the Ancestry DNA service?

    Would you recommend it?

My in laws used it. No surprises for dad, purebred Pollock. The passed down tale of "Cherokee blood in the family" on mom's side turned out to be <1% Somali and <1% North African.

Reckon that explains why she tans so much better than the rest of us.

They are not real reliable on Native American blood. That is one reason the tribes don't accept it. You can be pale faced, blond haired and blue eyes and be a member of most tribes. Look at the immediate past chief of the Western Cherokee.

I found out my mother had an affair with a family friend during the summer of 1960 and I am the result, I'm more Jewish than previously thought, there is a difference between being Sicilian and Italian and there is a big difference being from Cornwall and being from Wales.

I'd like my $200 back and the first 56 years of thinking Dad was my father and Mom was a saint.

Yeah, pretty much everybody in the South is mixed race. That's why the Southern Belles avoided the sun like vampires. The masters kids "pass" they go to the big house. They don't "pass" they stay with their slave mothers.

It confirmed what the family already knew.

What is interesting is how various ethic group percentages can vary among brothers and sisters of the same mother and father.

You haven’t heard of the Davis Test for The Welsh have ya then, it’s free:

    1. You can trace your ancestors back to someplace in a Pennsylvania coal mine ( that’s The Anthricite Region) IE “Coal Crackers.”

    2. You can drink, preferably two six packs at one sitting and still get home.

    3. You are a Methodist, or a Baptist or a .... point is, somewhere you were raised to be a believer.

1 & 2 B ... Pa Coal Cracker Welsh are known to take Rye Whiskey with their tea... serves as medication.

I did AncestryDNA and 23andMe for DNA work this year. I did AncestryDNA to get the use of their larger genetic database to track genetic origins, and 23andMe for a deeper dive into health stuff and to offer information on myself to see if there is a genetic component to Cushing's Disease.

No huge surprises with ancestry -- 100% European with 4% Neanderthal DNA (a large percentage).

The health stuff was more revealing, including a high probability of macular degeneration and issues with metabolizing folic acid.

That's why I said "pretty much everybody" and did not say "everybody." If you speak Southern, there is a huge difference between the two.

By mixed race, you mean mutt. I’d be inclined to say that’s most people in the USA Today.

My wife spent my hard earned money on this - it's been nine months and no word back yet. I think we got scammed.

Check your junk e-mail folder going back at least seven or eight months. You should have received notice one to two months after submitting your DNA sample. If nothing else, you can go onto your account at AncestryDNA and see the results there. They don't mail anything to you through the post office.
