I merely hoped you'd expound on your statement.

Your assumption about my assumption is an incorrect assumption.:flower:

No one is expected to dress like a bag lady to serve the poor, this is a ridiculous statement. But at least have a little common sense, you don't have to advertise to them that you think your so much better then they are by wear expensive clothing. And if she wore expensive shoes, I'm positive the rest of her clothing were as equally outrageously expensive. How heartless, and how heartless for any christian to defend this type of behavior.

How presumptuous for any christian to judge another on the clothes they are wearing.

I hurl myself at your superior cosmic piety.

I thought I read where gossip is a sin.

This is ridiculous. I am ashamed.

I hope Mrs. Obama wasn't wearing any jewelry say an engagement ring or a wedding band. I've seen those things sell in the tens of thousands of dollars. What kind of message would that send?

I guess the compassionate thing would be for everyone who wants to volunteer at a food pantry or soup kitchen to buy an outfit at KMart or Wally World first. Better yet, why not require a volunteer to shop at Salvation Army or Goodwill stores for their compassionate outfit?

In all fairness, I don't see the problem.

I mean, do you really think that Nancy Reagan put on an old pair of sweatpants when she visited homeless shelters or drug rehabs?

I'm more shocked by the fact that she's so dumb as to pay $500 dollars for a pair of shoes when I just got a great pair of shoes at Sears on sale for $14.

Heck, my kids get most of their shoes second hand and don't even know the difference.

If her husband would let her pay $500 for a pair of shoes, it's no wonder he doesn't understand how the economy works.

Personally, I used to care.... but I don't anymore, about appearances, mine or others. God got a hold on me on that. Although i never cared much about make-up and high dressing, still wearing contemporary and current style.... but modest, used to be important. God whittled that pride down through a series of events which have taught me that it is the world's system which puts a value on appearance and clothing..... not God.

As adults we can choose whether we accept the world's judgement and are also driven by it when present with others or recognize that it is not of God and begin to refuse its dominion in our lives. It is difficult for parents to teach this to their children when their children's friends are more materialistically driven. Some good families with well behaved children, may still accept or reject other children as their own children's playmates on the basis of materialistic class appearances.... or convey it to their children by their own 'pity talk gossip' regarding the 'poor' neighbor 5 blocks over, who ride the same bus and go to the same church and school as their own children.

We can have compassion and understanding that there are many viewpoints on this. What matters really, is not how we appear to other people but how we appear to God. What matters to us concerning why other people dress the way they do or act the way they do.... is really God's business and not ours. If other's treat us differently based upon what we wear or drive or size of home.... it is they who have the problem and their problem is between them and God as long as we're willing to stay out of God's personal business with them...... which is wise and spirit bearing fruit.

I notice that the way this is addressed in the Bible is through the concept of love and equality..... if a man having a ring comes to eat.... The apostle doesn't name a person who fits this description, nor does he name the offending parties.... the leaders in the church who judged the appearance of wealth preferentially over the poor members in their midst. Paul addressed the concept, dealing lovinglly with understanding to all he was instructing without calling them out. That this was, in itself, an example to us in the differences of treating different matters.... should be no surprise as Paul also called people by name, who either were offensive and obstructions to the gospel and those who had received discipline and changed to whom he gave recognition.

I hope my expounding was sufficient. In the future I will try and not assume on your assumptions.

And I see gossipers. Shameless gossipers who would ignore scripture. And if you think Obama is my idol then you are unable to read. Or unwilling. Ignorant, in any case. When he does wrong, I post it with no regret. When I see a bunch of cackling hens, I call it, with no regrets.

I work with drug addicts 4 - 5 times a week. I'm glad nobody here sees what I wear.

I believe Obama is probably like any other guy so here is a little senerio I thought of:

Obama (at the oval office): Hi honey back from the store?

Michelle: Yes I got a new outfit

Obama: You did? (raising an eyebrow) How much did you spend?

Michelle: Oh darling let's not worry about that

    Obama: Michelle, how much?

Michelle: Oh here's the receipt (She hands it to him)

Obama: Hmm, not bad but what about the shoes. There not on here.

    Michelle: Did I forget that?

Obama: Yep, now can I have that receipt for the shoes?

Michelle: Okay, is that all you worry about (sighs and hands it to him)

Obama: Le's see. 540 dollars for shoes! (He passes out)

Secret Service Guy: (Comes running in) Mr. President! What happened Mrs Obama?

Michelle: He looked at that reciept. (Pointing to it on the floor)

Secret Service Guy: 540 dollars for shoess...(He passes out too)

That is my little play about the shoes. :D

What would you estimate as the net worth of GW? More or less than Obama?

In other words this is something you made up? It has no basis in reality? What's the value of this?

I DO love a witty, yet accurate comeback!:thumbs:

There are a lot of "comebacks " on here, but the majority are just that - a comeback; Neither witty NOR accurate!!

So now you know what the First Lady thinks too. Maybe you should open a psychic hotline. If you have a complex over your clothes, maybe you should get over it.
