I want to learn more about companion or partner planting (I did a web search for "partner planting" and came up with church planting sites. LOL!).

Specifically, I'd like to know which herbs to plant by which vegetables. I'm looking to use herbs as a natural bug deterrent.

    TIA for the advice! :)

I find with enough weeds, and/or no water, like this year, when it was so dry here, that even the weeds

all died, I didn't have to worry about the bugs -

I love gardening! But with the drought here the last couple of years, I haven't done much gardening. We aren't even allowed to water with a hose--just with a watering can. So my garden has been really sad for the last couple of summers. :(

But here is a site that I really enjoy. It's called The Garden Web Forum, and there is lots of good info there:http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/

Good luck with your companion plantings--my Grandmother used to plant chives with her roses to deter bugs.

My husband always plants a few African Marigolds in the greenhouse to ward off the blackfly.

Thanks for the website Following Him I have printed out some of the info there

Gwyneth, you are most welcome. I plant Basil with tomatoes to keep whitefly away. :)

This last year I planted G90 Sweet Corn-----about 1/2 acre--got a few good rains on it and it made pretty good

Also planted about an acre of watermelon---------if I got 3 melons off the whole plot I did good--------the deer got um before I did----absolutely ruined every melon off that acre

I'm not good at what plant to plant to help keep bugs away-----I do spray tomatoes and the like with Diozinon and Malathon---it will absolutely give any worm or flyin' insect a good case of the stomach rot!!!!:type:

I plow with a John Deere tractor and cultivate with an International Super A tractor

    Thanks for the links!

I know what you mean about the watermelons. My free-range chickens ate mine last year. I don't have any more chickens now, so my garden should survive this year.

I'm planning on doing raised beds this time to see if I can save myself time from all the weeding. We'll see...
