Just curious, are there any other groups besides Baptists that are KJVO?

I'm not looking to make a point, but something I was thinking the other day and I wondered if there were Methodist KJVO or Church of Christ KJVO etc.

Recall that only Baptists can respond to your
inquiry. But i suspect there is no KJVOism
outside the Baptists. Baptists are a
    minority among Protestant Christians.
IFBs are a minority among Baptists.
KJVOs are a minority among IFBs.

The KJVO position is a very minor position.
In any group with any internal structure,
such an unprobable position held by such
a small minority would never take hold anywhere.
So it can only be a contaminant among
    Bapatists.

Many a Pentecostal is KJVO, along with many nondenom churches& Orthodox churches, indie "Churches of God", & others...not to mention many a CULT. But KJVO remains largely a BAPTIST problem.

There are a few significant KJV-onlyists who are Pentecostal, most notably Texe Marrs and Joseph Chambers. (I don't know for sure but suspect that Gail Riplinger might also be Pentecostal, based on the circumstantial evidence of some of the company she keeps.)

I've also encountered a few Presbyterians who are hardcore KJV-only, though there are a lot more that are simply KJV- or TR-preferred.

I wouldn't call the SDA KJVO. The SDA's Clear Word Bible is used in many SDA circles...

    Mormons.

I have a Mormon book written in 1957 that defends the KJV using modern KJVO myths. The name of the book is:

Why the King James Version by J. Reuben Clark, Jr

****as a side note does anyone know if any KJVOist authors have referenced this book? I know that Fuller stole from Wilkinson.****

Many attribute the KJVO myth to a splinter of the SDA, I know not all of them hold to it.

In my country the equivalent of the KJVO movement is found among the extremist Calvinists. Those certainly aren't baptists and are in fact a little hostile towards baptist Christianity.

I know several Church of God (Cleveland, TN) that are KJVO.

Main difference is that they are honest about their ignorance of what the bible has to say, whereas most KJVO on this Board just show theirs by what they say to prove their myth.

Some non-baptists, but almost all an IFB issue.

SDA origins of the only doctrinal interpretation, but the denomination has repudiated that idea.

LDS (we are in their balliwick) LOVE the KJV since they want to interpret its archaic words/phrases in Mormon terms and the difficulty in understanding the language helps their views seem credible.

First, Baptist are not Protestants. Second, being in the minority is not always a bad thing.

    Matt 7:13-14
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

KJV Onlyism seems to show up in "pockets" of other groups or denominations, but is much more prevelant in the IFB.

Some that I am familiar with are:

1). Grace Brethren. This is somewhat of an offshoot from the German Baptists from the early 1900's. I have run across some KJVO in this denomination.

2). Plymouth Brethren. This is the group of Christians who trace their roots back to J. N. Darby and George Mueller, etc. KJVO is alive and well in some PB Assemblies, but since they are usually not connected together via a denomination or association, it is sporadic.

3). Bible Church movement as propogated by the Hyper-dispensational crowd (aka Richard Jordan). There is a STRONG KJVO movement within this group. Many of the leaders of this movement, while not baptist, cling to a large amount of Ruckman's writings.

I have also heard of KJVO showing up in the Orthodox (or is it Bible) Presbyterian churches, but I have no first hand knowledge of this.

    Hiya Terry!

Thank you for quoting that scripture. This scripture also came to my mind as I read this thread, and I also was going to post it. Since you already have, I won't, but I whole-heartedly thank you.

love in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour,
    michelle

Back in the late 80s, I knew a young woman who was United Pentecostal. One day we were discussing the Bible and she told me that all versions except the KJV were of the devil. This was the first time I had ever heard that opinion. Since then, most KJVOs I have encountered have been Baptists.

You might want to take that NIV back to the bookstore, they misspelled "broad" and "road." [IMG]

Actually, I have several NIV's and even one NASB and one NKJV. They make excellent commentaries.
