I have been pondering this for a week now, since the great debate on here about politics and morals.

The only Dem who I trust as a Christian is Jimmy Carter. I dont agree with his politics but I do believe he is honest and truly believes the issuse he pushes.

    The Clintons? Kennedys? Murtha? Obama?

They all promote gay rights, abortion, and despise our military.

These people have no moral standards and to me represent the devil and all that Hell stands for.

I know MP and dragonfly will attack me for this...other than them, what do the rest of you think about the democratic party as a whole?

Democrats are certainly superior to Republicans at this point in our history. If Democrats are evil, then I shudder to think what Republicans are.

Sheesh! Leave for a while and come back to find such nonsense. Guess I shouldn't be too surprised. So ajg, what would you consider a confessed socialist? Satan's right hand man?

No, my head deacon is a democrat...

Uh.. did I just say no?

    Yeah, I did...

Anyway, he thinks more like a republican than a democrat...

He agrees with me that there is no one to vote for this November.

When a person yokes up with a political party that has on their platform the right to choose abortion... and the right to gay marriage (which is an oxymoron in many ways!!!!... think about it... haha) that person needs to seriously consider his or her relationship with God.

I know that is strong, but how can a Christian support the things God calls an abomination? something is wrong somewhere...

This conservative obssession with conflating political viewpoints with salvation and/or one's relationship with God is nonsense. There is no Biblical warrant for such a thing. Nowhere does the Bible deal with political parties, political platforms, or politics in a representative democracy - period.

No! Political ignorant people make the rest of us appear intelligent in comparison. :)

(Please notice the smiley face - I'm just kidding, ya'll. It was just too good of a comment to let go. )

The thread asks the wrong question. The question is, are all politicians evil? The answer is yes.

The idea of detecting more or less integrity between Democrats and Republicans is like asking which would you rather have in a restaurant, rats or roaches.

That it is a political party, political being the operative word. Please note that political does not, nor can it, equate with religious and/or moral. It is comprised of a multitude of people of differing religions, morals, life experiences, and belief systems. Just as the Republican party it cannot be defined in such narrow terms, hence your conundrum with Jimmy Carter, i.e., the Democratic party cannot be placed in a neat little box all wrapped up with a bow. To try and do so is a complete and utter waste of time and intelligence.

Agreed. The kind of thinking in the OP is why I have trouble "labelling" myself with any party affiliation.

I grew up in a Democratic household, in a town that was (at the time) almost 100% Democrat. Moved to a town with just about the same statistics. Most of the Democratic politicians were deacons in their churches, and I actually grew up believing that Republicans were the "evil" ones, because they would "rather starve nine deserving people than run the risk of feeding ONE undeserving", and that the Democrats were the "saints" because they'd rather FEED nine UNdeserving than run the risk of one deserving go hungry.

I don't know if the Party changed, I did, or both. Because somewhere along the line, there was too much emphasis on gay rights, abortion rights, and other things that are specifically in the Democratic platform that I do not agree with. Then, along came Bill Clinton and I became ASHAMED of having ever been a Democrat. (I've since calmed down about that, so please--no Dems take offense. :wavey: )

But I can't whole-heartedly support the Republican Party either, although I tend to vote Republican quite often. Too often, I am disappointed by what I perceive to be political power plays that step on Average John Q. Public as the Republican party machine supports its big-business partners.

HOWEVER, it's all politics. It's oozing, from top to bottom, with corruption, greed, the thirst for power and control; and unfortunately to make it to the top of the heap, many back-room deals have to be made....BOTH parties. BUT, even with that jaded comment, I DO NOT think that everyone in ANY party is "evil" or ONLY capable of evil things. I personally wish there were "more choices"--QUALITY choices--but I also understand that it takes oodles and oodles of money and organization to play in the national ballgame. That's just the way it is. As a Christian, all I can do is look the field over, pray about it, pick the team I think will play the game the BEST--and trust God to know what He's doing. HE is the One who allows them to power--whether it's the team I vote for or not.

AND, I have three VERY close friends that are Democrats--and they are Christian in their walk AND talk. They don't like everything their party stands for either--they just happen to like it better than the other option. I love them, even when I think they're wrong, and they are NOT evil.

Discrimination is assigning a group of attributes to a large group of people and thinking of them as all the same. This has been done with blacks and women in the United States and now you're doing it to half of the adult population who happen to think the Democratic Party is superior to the Republican Party. But you go much farther than just calling them stupid or lazy. You claim they have no moral standards, say they represent the devil and cannot possibly be Christian.

I think your perspective has been fairly prevalent in the last 20 years or so but thank goodness I think it's beginning to die. The extreme right Christian fundamentalists are actually getting shut out of a Presidential election for the first time in a long time. The country is beginning to see their hypocrisy and legalism is very much like the Pharasees in Jesus time. They are destroying the church and hindering the advancement of the true church from evangelism. Care to take a guess on how many of the Pharasees will be in heaven?
