I agree with you I was putting (God of course) because that is what I know. Not because that is what they thought. We next look , I think, at their background to find out what they most likely believed.

It's been brought up, but that's okay. Being created "equal" does not equate to being created "the same". Also, equal opportunity is not synonymous with equal outcome.

That's exactly what they were referring to. The DoI was referring to England's treatment of the Colonists, especially after the Crown imposed a tax upon the Colonists while denying them repreentation in Parliament (taxation without representation).

When we go off on grandiose tangents regarding the DoI, we end up perverting the DoI intent.

but don't deny any of the rest of the document either,

A self-evident truth: there is a Creator based on the statement this Creator gave rights.

God is consistantly misquoted. God considers democracy the worst possible of all governments, "and every man did what was right is his own eyes."

We sure can make our faith a mighty heavy load to bear. Why do so many of us have to complicate the Gospel so much?

Sometimes I feel very small and unenlightened when reading threads like this one. Oddly, I like it.

More than that, they were disputing the "divine right" of kings to rule as well as the caste system.

I'm not sure what you mean here. Would you please explain further?

    Daisy,

More than that, they were disputing the "divine right" of kings to rule as well as the caste system.

I disagree with you. I think they realized that this issue had been answered with the Glorious Revolution. Though Paine used it as an argument, it was not the substance of their complaints.
