    True SFIC.

The horror movies today subtly weave in fornication, adultery, nudity, swearing, etc...into the mix of horrific violence.

As a child, I enjoyed a few of the oldies such as killer tomatoes and the Birds

Once I got to the point that I understand how the camera is zoomed in so the viewer is detatched from the surroundings, and how the music is woven around the action, many movies became lame wastes of time for me.

The difference between a comedy and a horror flick is in the camera shot. If you had a panoramic view of a park green and a man came up behind someone and hit him in the head, it would be a comedy. if the camera is zoomed in, the actor looks over his shoulder and the malefactor "appears," you have horror. Of course, the music is half of the action.

So, for the ones who are :tear:, why? Are movies in general not okay?
DH and I watched The Birds last weekend. Classic horror! Never did explain why the birds all of a sudden went nuts.

Once in a while, I don't see anything wrong with watching television or a movie if it is wholesome. There are usually better things to do imo.
Senior Citizens may watch more television since they have limited mobility, and health problems.

Watched I Am Legend and National Treasure 2 this weekend with my bride. She likes the scary ones, as I said before. I prefer action, and the National Treasure movie was my choice. Liked them both!

Check out the original version of "The Uninvited" sometime. It's one of the best ghost stories of all time.

For those of you who like good horror and suspense stories, there is a series that took place in in the 40's called "Adventures by Morse".

One serial in the series is "City of the Dead."

It's very good and it's available over the internet.

    You can hear it here:

It's an old radio show, so it takes some imagination on your part. It's a lot of fun to sit down and listen to with your kids and best of all, no profanity, sex, or anything inappropriate.

You're very welcome. We like the old classic radio shows so much that we listen to them more than we watch TV.

    Horror Movies vs. God's Word

Why don't we take a look at what the world has to say about Horror Films and then take a contrasting look at what the WORD OF GOD has to say about those things.

    Direct Quote from Wikipedia.
    Lets look at the Definition

The very definition of a horror film (designed to elicit fright, terror, or horror from viewers) should be enough for even the youngest Christian to abstain from watching. The Word of God constantly commands, encourages, and exhorts us to "Fear Not!" and is often comforting us with the thought that we, as the children of God, are delivered from fear.
    Lets look at the Plots.

In horror film plots, evil forces, events, or characters, sometimes of supernatural origin, intrude into the everyday world.
These plots include but are not limited to (1) Laying wait for blood (2) lurking privily for the innocent without cause (3) swallowing them up alive as the grave (4) finding all precious substances and filling ones own house with spoil (5) casting in lots with evil - joining forces and resources with evil ones (6) running to evil (7) shedding blood (8) lying in wait for their own blood (9) lurking privily for their own lives (10) greedy of gain (11) taking away the life of the owners.
All of these things are an abomination and we, as Christians, are not to bring those things into our house, let alone into our mind and thoughts.
    Lets look at the Characters.
The characters that make up horror movies are those thought up from the pit of hell

Vampires - Evil monsters whose intent is to drink the blood of their victims.

Zombies - "living" dead things - monsters - serial killers - Ghosts - All of these in horror movies only have the intention of killing, murder, and destruction of the innocent without cause.

Demons - those fallen angels who, with Satan, desire the overthrow and destruction of God Almighty.

Lets look athe the Effect on the Minds of People

Those who watch these wicked movies open the door for Satan to get an advantage of them in their mind. By dwelling on the "dark topics" a Christian IS effected.

We, as Christians, SHOULD NOT watch these wicked and ungodly films. These movies glorify wicked actions, they promote evil thoughts, they deal intrinsically with fear and fearfulness, they are produced by wicked people and we are to stay away from such things.

Thanks for the insight Jason. I've never actually seen a definition for "zombie" before.

If you are true to your word, you should have already torn Revelation out of your Bible(s) and thrown it away.

I haven't read of vampires, ghouls and zombies in Revelation yet.

Having said that, I used to like watching horror movies.
When they used to do them like they ought to do them, with a storyline.
    Today's horror movies ?
    Nah.
I'd rather watch a KISS concert, has more storyline in their songs.

I liked the old Christopher Lee Dracula films.
    I hate today's Draculas.
Who would be infatuated with a grotesque vampire with obvious foul breath ?
Only the stupid would believe that Satan could attract anyone with such a face !

Then may it be presumed you would accept 'horror movies' that feature a 7-headed, 10-horned red dragon, little flying scorpions that torment people unable to kill themselves, a monstrous creature out of the sea......?

I think they're about to come out with one, pretty soon.
To me it's not a matter of whether I "accept".
Movies are movies, Scripture is Scripture.
Movies can be, and most of the time are, stupid and concocted.
Scripture is truth and unlike movies can be symbolical in its language.
Movies present themselves as if they were truth and not symbolical.

My seeing horror movies does not have any bearing on my relationship with my God, and on His relationship with me.
