So, if someone had a demon and it needed to be cast out, how many of you would do it, and why??

    Scary business.

First of all in Matt 17 we see the disciples who WERE successfully casting out demons in Matt 10 -- were at a point of failure.

And in Acts we see cases where that is downright dangerous.

It is not something to be taken lightly.

    In Christ,

Yes, there are demons on this earth today. I maintain that christians can have them, and that it is safe to cast them out if you do it the right way.

I do not believe that a Christian can be "possessed" by a demon. The body of a believer is indwelt with the Holy Spirit - it is a holy temple. A demon cannot live in the temple of God. Can a Christian be swayed or influenced? Absolutely!

    Sparkle,

Let me clarify this right from the start!! I did not say that christians can be demon posessed They can have a demon without being completely taken over by it!!!

Matt: 12-43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

verse 44 says if the house(body) is swept and clean and there is nothing there then the spirits come back 7 times stronger.

This is why you should not cast demons out of an unsaved person. Because if they don't fill their mind with Jesus, then they will wind up much worse off.

Only if it is a saved person, or you know they will accept Jesus once the devils are gone

I know there will be disagreement on this, so bring it on. (not just Sparkle, but anyone)

Tam, it may have seemed it since it appeared right under your post, but I really didn't post my response to you - I was sort of echoing a post by someone earlier in this thread. I still hold to my view that there is literally no room for a demon in a Christian - the Holy Spirit already lives there. No where in Scripture do we find an example of a person with the Holy Spirit possessed by a demon. I wasn't directing that at your posts - I'm sorry if it seemed that way. But since we're discussing this, to help me understand, what is the difference in being demon possessed and having a demon?

I seriously disagree with you Tambourine Lady! A Christian cannot have 'any' demon. They can yield to sin or be influenced by satan but your remark is
    The Bible says: Matt 6:24
"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."

John 5-14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

If a sinner is cleansed of demons and does not fill his mind and heart with the word of God, he will become worse than before.

Thats O.K. sparkle, I just figured it was a question that needed answering.

The differance in having one and being posessed is this:

Possessed means that a person is totally in the grip of satan and hates God etc( even though they can "pretend" they are saved until confronted.)

To HAVE a demon would be to be following Jesus, but get caught up in drinking or pornogrophy. You know it's wrong and you repent, but you can't stop!!

    THAT'S A DEMON!!

You hit the nail on the head. Often times, we ascribe things like drunkenness and fornication to demons, when they SHOULD be attributed to bad decisions.

The devil does a real good job of making people think it is something else and not his little demon helpers. That's why so many people have, or are bothered by demons and don't know it.

If he can just keep us thinking sin nature, etc, etc, then he can invade our lives, our churches our homes and wreak havoc and nobody knows!!!!!

But he is there in these last days the same as he was in the early church(or maybe more so)trying to tear things apart and nobody pays attention because "it's just sin nature".

think about it! Don't run around on satans leash!!

    Tam,

If anyone is indwelt by a demon they are not a christian. You can not be indwelt by the Holy Spirit and a demon. And scripture says if you do not have the Holy Spirit in you you do not belong to Christ at all. No where in scripture do we see a christian indwelt by a demon.

    Donna,

Since God is not the one that makes us sick, what do you suppose causes things like cancer in our bodies?? It's not sin because Jesus said so.

It is (in my opinion) demon activity within us. You see, you can have the Holy Ghost in your heart, and still get a cancer some where else.

The Holy Ghost does not fill every inch of our bodies.

Tam, the thing that causes cancer, death, sickness is the sin nature we all have as passed down from Adam; and this is totally seperate from the actual sins of commision and ommision we do every day that we ask our Lord to forgive. We will not have the sin nature removed until we are all in Glory with Him!

Yes Tam, the Holy Spirit fills every cell in our bodies; that is why there is an unending war between the flesh and the Spirit within us all until that blessed day we are called home! [IMG]

    I disagree.

Cancer is caused by genetics, environment, life style, etc. NOT SIN.

I also disagree that a Christian can have a demon. Sin is free will, not demons.

Death and disease came to man and all creation at the fall of man when Adam disobeyed. What Jesus said was it is not from personal sin, but because sin had entered the world, and is still here, as is evidenced all around us.

Christians can not be demon possessed. Please give scripture to show a demon possessed Christian.
The Holy Spirit indwells as much of you as you turn over to Him. God will not share you with satan and his demons. You either belong to Jesus or you don't. Only if you do not can you be demon possessed.

You can not blame all sin on demons. You are responsible for your own sin. If it weren't your fault because of demons then you'd never need to repent, you couldn't be held responsible.

Uhhh, that what we call LIFE! It's called living in an imperfect world. When our body is invaded by, say the cold virus, it's neither good nor bad. It's just life. We often only call it bad because we're inconvenienced by it. My uncle was recently diagnosed with liver cancer. Was it Satan or a demon? No, it was the result of years of working in a chemical plant being exposed to cancer causing agents. My father died of lung cancer. Was it Satan or a demon? No, it was a life of smoking.

    Donna,

Please don't put words in my mouth!

I did not say a christian can be demon possessed. I said they could have a demon. There is a difference

I see that Satan has been selling his wares really well. As long as he can convince us that his demons can't bother us, then he is free to screw up our lives, and we go away shaking our heads saying, "what happened"?

That statement is not directed to any one in particular, just an attempt to get folks to think!

WRONG as the spelling of tambourine!

There is NO demon activity WITHIN a Christian but what we are exposed to or what we expose ourselves to because of yielding to our sin nature and satan!

To say we can 'have a demon' even if you are not saying demon possessed, is to say Christ can co-exhist with a demon! To say the Holy Ghost does not fill every inch of our body is ridiculous. He must fill our sexual parts or God would not have stressed that sex with a harlot would be causing Christ to become 'members of a harlot'.

I believe we are used by, influenced by and allow our own deaths (in MANY cases) to be caused by satan! Satan wants us dead. He entices an alcoholic to drink and an obese man to eat. He entices us to commit sexual sins that expose us to HIV and other disease. He tempts us to drive fast or even drive after drinking. We give in to our sin nature and the wiles of satan and give him power over our lives. He does NOT, nor do his minion, live in us.

Sin is pleasurable for a season and then we reap what we sowed.

Bless you Diane, thank you so much for telling me how to spell my name!! I really think that is great! (its a cheap shot, but thanks anyway)

Like I said, as long as you don't understand then satan can have his reign with you.

    May God reveal and enlighten,

    Tamborine Lady
