Just to toss this out there, I don't think the fanatical fringe of the homosexual movement speaks for all homosexuals. Yes there is a segmet a larger segment of the homosexual community that advocates complete acceptance. They have found a voice and platform with the media.

Of course there are many homosexuals who truly struggle with their sin. I have been counseling a young man for a while who has been in a homosexual lifestyle since college and desperately wants out. He doesn't want universal acceptance, but desires a renewed relationship with Christ.

Thank you for pointing this out.

I didn't realize she was accusing our church of anything because it does not correlate to reality.

But this does help explain some of the non sequitur accusations on the thread about Broadway Baptist Church.

That's great!

Sexual sin is very difficult to overcome because of how deeply these issues are connected to our essential fallen humanness.

Our church ministers to a wide variety of people including some who identify as homosexuals. I don't know of any practicing homosexuals who are members, although I'm sure there are some because we don't track everyone with private detectives. For that matter, I'm fairly confident we have a number of members who are involved in inappropriate heterosexual sin simply on the basis of our prevailing culture, the number of college students we have, and the pernicious nature of the sin. Again, we don't follow people around trying to catch them. However, we do encourage close fellowship, advocate appropriate sexual behavior, and we seek redemption as our goal rather than explusion when someone is caught in sexual sin or confesses to their struggles.

Absolutely! Well said.

There is someone I know, yes. He has struggled for many years - and hasn't had much understanding. It's a subject which we can't ignore the biblical prohibition - but having said that, we are all sinners. None of us has any excuse to look down on anyone as being worse than us.

Thanks. Well, I'm maybe a bit young and inexperienced to minister to him! But others have certainly judged him.

Steve, I see in the last few posts you've mentioned not judging someone. Can you read 1 Corinthians 5 in it's entirety and tell me what it says to you?

OK, but what about the argument in the gospels: judge not, lest ye also be judged?

That is Matthew 7:1. Can you read Matthew 7:1-5 - the entire passage and tell me if it is telling us not to judge?

But surely it is? "Take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

But doesn't it say something to the effect "judge not least you be judged in like maner that you judge others"? So if you're not doing those things are you then able to judge others who do?

See how it says to take the plank from your own eye and THEN you can remove the speck from your brother's eye? It doesn't say not to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

I told you to take a look at 2 Timothy 3:16 - I'll post it here to see. (OK - putting in 17 too since it continues the sentence):

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

Note that the Word of God is good for reproof and correction as well as teaching and training. Why would those two words be in there if believers were not to use the Word to correct and reproof?

As brothers and sisters in Christ, we ARE to hold each other accountable, correct and reprove a brother or sister who is doing something wrong according to the Word of God, and to pray for them. Matthew 18 tells us how to approach one who has wronged us - isn't that a judgment? 1 Corinthians 5 is SOOO clear that we ARE to judge what those in our congregation are doing if they are violating the Word of God. If we just sit back and say "It's not my job", then how are following what God clearly says in 1 Corinthians 5?

Does all of that make sense?

Yes - I think so. Thanks

I wasn't being deliberately contentious. Even scripture itself acknowledges that some things are difficult to understand!

The Bible has the answer, try reading it:

Matthew 7:1-2 (HCSB = Christian Standard Bible (

Do not judge, so that you won't be judged. 7:2 For with the judgment you use, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you
Do not judge, so that you won't be judged.
2: For with the judgment you use, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Note this does NOT say "Do not Judge". It reminds us when we do judge, we need to use the same measuring stick.

BTW, didn't the question CLEARY deleniate "a known Homosexual"?
To clear a homosexual away from a church, if it is the policy of a church (and it is mine, as well as couples coming where one of the partnersIS KNOWN to be married to someone else still living)

Come on, I'm the Church Bouncer in my church, of course I know these things. I avoid the problem myself by NOT inviting my friends who are married to one person and living with another to my church. I avoid the probelm myself by NOT inviting my friends who are openly homosexual to attend my church. Sorry, this is NOT being judgmental.

Judgmental says: "Hey Girl, I know you are Lesbian" when they aren't open yet or "Yo, Dude, you are obviously a homosexual or really have a badly enemic wrist???"

BTW, A stars and rainbow flag on one's car either needs to be removed OR learn to live with being thought a homosexual.

Yes - but you'll not find things that contradict themselves. So we need to really dig into the Word to see what it says. The huge "key phrase" that the world hooks onto and uses a lot is the "judge not lest ye be judged" yet they don't know what the passage actually says. I find it best to atleast go back to the beginning of the section of the Scripture and read to the end of the section - and in some cases, read the entire chapter or more to get the full understanding of what the Scripture says. We need to be really careful to not take just a few words or a sentence out and make that a doctrine. We need to see the whole of Scripture. :)

How can anyone be absolutely sure unless they act feminine? However, even being feminine in nature doesn't necessarily mean a guy is homosexual. There are just some very sissified guys who are not homosexual and prefer women. On the other hand, there are some very masculine acting homosexuals who you would never suspect if they didn't say they were that way. The guy who propositioned me had been married and had a daughter.

I don't think it's any more possible to always be sure on that subject any more than you can be sure who is born again and who isn't.

Can you tell by looking at them which guys are cheating on their wives, or which women are cheating on their husbands?

Too often we stereotype people without knowing anything about them. I've made that mistake before and then found out how wrong I was. Of course, if they say "I am gay", they would not be allowed to join. They would more than likely be allowed to come to the services in the hope that they might accept Christ Who would then change their life.
