Oh, and how could I forget? I still have a lot of stuff from both times. Like the payroll sheet copies (in my ond job records), the badges and lanyards, and the plastic carry case for enumerators from '90.

All of what you posted is factually correct.

However, none of what you posted changes the facts I set forth earlier in the thread.

And there are two specific responses I wish to make:

    1. The purpose of the Census is, and has always been, for determining proper represntation. The ad campaigns that say, "fill out your census so you can get your fair share" is wrong-headed, and feeds two myths: One--that it's the Census's purpose to re-distribute government funds. Two--further perpetuation of the idea that there is such a thing as "free money." Someone's paying for the handouts that the Census "distributes."

    2. Most government employees are just like other ones--they do their best, and have no desire to break the rules or the law. But we've seen time and time again--Because of their access to data--when a government employee screws up, the ramifications can be huge. Remember the "stolen laptop," and the veterans who had their personal data realease...all because a DOD employee managed to lose a laptop (which, incidentally, he was carrying around, off-site, with all that info) (SOURCE)

Lets see: We asked how many, names, b'days, Hispanic or no, race(yes this is different than of hispanic descent), a couple of clarification questions (is this your usual home, do you sometimes stay somewhere else), and if you own or rent (with or without mortgage, or if someone else pays the rent). That is it and we are done!

None of this to my mind is intrusive. None of the data stays connected to anyone's name. Names are for counting purposes only as in the case of someone with mutliple addresses and are stripped off whne the data is compiled.

However, if you tell ME that you aren't giving me what I want to know, I don't care. I'm going to write "refused" at the bottom of the form and be done. :D If the bureau wants more info, they'll send someone else around.

Well, my break is almost over. I gotta get back out there. LOL, I had the first half of an apt complex in my last book and today they gave me the other half. I'm getting to know folk quite well over there!

It is all intrusive. It is none of their business whether I own or rent.

My argument is not--and has not been--intrusivness, as much as purpose. Although it is true that it isn't the government's business what race I am...my issue isn't the "nosiness," but rather what they will do with the information. They will use this information to buy votes. (no, not directly--but through programs which foster government dependence--hence the commercials that say, "fill out your Census form, so we can get our fair share.")

Good point. Even if someone comes to see me, and I politely refuse--they're just doing their job. Nothing personal to them when I say, "no answer;" and I'm sure they'll respond just as MK does.

One "unintended consequence" of this whole process: I hope that some relationships will be cultivated through this whole process. Who knows? God's used a talking donkey--I bet He can use a Census worker! :tongue3:

(now wait a minute, MK...put down that rolling pin...no one needs to get hurt...)

Seems to me that we are bound by our commitment to Christ over Constitution.

Christ commands that we obey and submit to rulers. So long as they don't ask us to violate the fundamentals of our faith. Is the Constitution of the United States a fundamental of Christianity...normative for all Christians?

Otherwise it seems to me you have a Christian obligation to submit to their laws.

I am to render to ceaser what is his, and to God what is His. Also, Mary and Joseph submitted to the Roman count when that came around.

My obedience is to Christ Jesus. And I suppose if this government wanted to know much more about me than what was asked in those questions, they could easily find out.

I see nothing compromising my stand in the Gospel by answering those questions.

This is really a no brainer. Rulers do not override the constitution. If rulers are trying to override the constitution then what they are doing is illegal. Are we bound to submit to illegal demands of rulers? You cannot set aside the constitution in this matter just so your favorite government projects can get fulfilled.

Liberals care nothing for the word of God of the constitution when it gets in the way of their progressive agenda.

That's a lie. I'm a political liberal and a theological conservative who believes in the Bible, God's inerrant and infallible word, which is a perfect treasure of divine revelation, and is the sole authority in matters of faith and practice. Secondly, I love the Constitution and as an American, I believe that it is the best governing document in the world, and as a federal employee I am sworn to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same.

You need to stop making untrue and overgeneralised statements.

Paul, sadly Mitch's personal politics of hate cause him to lie about his brothers. This goes way beyond broad brush.

The Constitution is in authority over government officials, not the other way around. Thus, when government officials act outside the Constitution, they are not acting on behalf of the government, but according to their own agendas and we have no obligation to follow them.

And how do you reconcile those two beliefs? I mean, as a liberal, how do you reconcile your belief that social welfare is grossly Unconstitutional with your claim to support liberalism, which views social welfare programs as the sole responsibility of government?

How do you reconcile your belief that all powers not specifically delegated to the government in Article I, Section 8 belong to the states, and the liberal belief in a very large and very intrusive centralized government?

So then, what are you doing to help stop Emperor Obama?

I haven't gotten many hours working the Census thus far (outside of training) because of my orientation for my new job. I've got about nine hours so far this week with half of that today. I plan on heading back out tomorrow and seeing it I can bump that up some more, though. :D

No one has been discourteous but I do have one house in my AA that my CL told me to not go back to. They have a steel cable across the driveway with three padlocks, all the windows either have interior shutters or extremely heavy drapes (all closed), and has a webcam watching the driveway. All the doors are steel security doors with new deadbolts on them. I won't accuse anyone of illegal activities without proof, but methinks there may be some cooking go on in there and I ain't talking about chicken...

Hey Trotter! I didn't know you working the Census.

I'm low on hours this week myself. On Monday I ran into something somewhere that I am seriously allergic to. By Tuesday I couldn't stop sneezing or crying. A nice shot of steroids took care of the allergy, but evidently the attack allowed an infection to start up! So I've spent most of this week in bed! They called to tell me not to worry if I went over my 40 hours today (you KNOW they don't want overtime!) and I had to laugh and tell them that I could work from dawn till dusk and still not go over 40 hours this week! I'm hoping next week will be better!

I'm going out here pretty soon. I have another day or two's work to do in the apartment complex I've been working and then late this evening I need to drive out to my other area and see if I can finish it up. There is only a handful of folk I haven't been able to get a hold of.

Yesterday's fun? I found 3 houses where the occupants had gone off and left their doors open! Three!! A couple of them were nice houses too! I know I'm down south but still, the meth heads will carry you off if they figure out you aren't at home and the door is open.
