    UGH.... horribly... bad!!!!!

    Someone should be punished for this atrocity. Romans 12:19...

    "Far Out.. Far East... Rickshaw Rally.... Race to the Son!
    It'll be so fun... racing to the Son!!!"

    GAGGGGGG!!!!!

    Come on kids, come to Jesus - it's FUN!

    Are these folks reading the same Bible??

    2Timothy 3:12
    Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

    Oh Timothy.... :(

    Yes! Racing to the Son of God... learning all about him through scripture, fun songs and missionary stories can be FUN!

    Ps 5:11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.

    Ps 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

    Ps 21:1 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The king shall have joy in Your strength, O Lord; And in Your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

    I could post about 100 more that speaks of Joy in knowing Jesus...

    Within 10 miles of my church we have 101,000 people. 87% do not attend church on a regular basis. I can just hear us now. 'Y'all come on down to Vacation Bible School. It's going to be a time of serious study and dour faces. We certainly won't sing fun songs, do crafts or play games but we sure want you to send your unsaved children!' Now how many do you think we'd get to attend? Shucks... I wouldn't even go!

    BTW... how many of you pc people ever eat Asian foods? Does the restaurant have dragons, fans, chop sticks for those who can use them and then send home left overs or take out in the little boxes?

    I searched and found this link:
    http://www.jnto.go.jp/ It's the Japanese National Tourist page! It opens with workers in a rice field, Mt. Fuji, people carrying loads on sticks across their shoulders.... [IMG]
    So, if the Japanese National Tourist Org. isn't insulting their populace, then how can this fun literature be so insulting?

    Joy in the Lord is not what our world means by "fun". IMO If you trick a bunch of people into making some kind of sinner's prayer, telling them how fun it'll all be, you'll lose most of them the moment the worldly "fun" stops and any kind of persecution begins.

    The church should not, and cannot, compete in the "fun" department. For the unconverted, sin is fun. Selfishness is fun, fornicating is fun, drunkeness is fun. All fun, fun, fun.

    Yielding ourselves to the Lord Jesus is not, and never has been, the most entertaining option.

    I think this emphasis on "fun" is false advertising - all too often leading to false conversions.

    Dying to self cannot be made fun with silly songs, crafts, and dancing.

    ---

    BTW, what's wrong with serious Bible study? Can it really be improved with a few whoopee cushions and silly faces?

    Sobriety is a virtue.

    2Corinthians 5:13
    For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.

    1Thessalonians 5:6
    Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

    1Thessalonians 5:8
    But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

    1Timothy 3:2
    A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

    1Timothy 3:11
    Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

    Titus 1:8
    But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

    Titus 2:2
    That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

    Titus 2:4
    That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

    Titus 2:6
    Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

    1Peter 1:13
    Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

    1Peter 4:7
    But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

    1Peter 5:8
    Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

    1Timothy 2:9
    In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

    1Timothy 2:15
    Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

    OK, well that verse doesn't have much to do with my point. Please forgive my overzealous cutting and pasting!

    Timothy, we're not talking about adults. We're talking about little kids. If this type of program was aimed at adults it would be different, but dancing and singing and having FUN with preschoolers and school age children isn't sin and isn't wrong and it isn't misleading.
    I have FUN with my children learning division. We make up insane little songs to help them remember things and it HELPS them get a better grasp on the subject and be more willing to get down to the serious parts and lays the groundwork to developing harder skills.
    What would have people do? Throw the kiddies a bible and whip them if they don't memorize 20 verses a week and bring written examples of how they lived out the concepts the verses taught?
    They're CHILDREN.

    OK, Enough.

    My fellow Sunday School/VBS teachers and I know what we mean. The themes and the games and the crafts are just the "hooks" to get 'em in the door. Not that I don't have fun myself, because my favorite thing to do is get up and lead singing with motions in front of a sanctuary full of kids. Making a regular fool of myself upon occaision.

    But a lot of serious talk goes on in the classroom, and kids get saved and learn that church is an OK place to be. That's what it's all about, yes?

    Just don't want to do a gimmick that might hurt someone's feelings, that's all.
