My husband is an autobody repairman at a chevy dealership. They put bread on our table.

 

We just had a 'go round' about this type of thing at our church not too long ago...with the whole Disney thing. People were so zealous..." OH! I will never buy another Disney product ever!" On and on. No wonder the secularists call us all hypocrites! Unless you boycott EVERYTHING then boycotting one or two things is nothing but sophisticated hypocrisy.

I don't know about any of you, but I do not have the time to sit for hours on end researching for just the right toothpaste, hairspray, deoderant, soap, dish towels, and underwear (list is ad in finitum). I would venture a guess that the majority of companies that manufacture "stuff" have thier fingers in some kind of 'dirty pie'. Am I saying it's right? Not at all! Sure...I could spend lots of time finding all of the 'right' things to buy (based on who does and who doesn't support the things I don't condone). But by then my children will have grown up without learning our Lord's ways, my patients will not have been comforted, and the people who cross my path on any day would not be touched by my WALKING the WALK. But hey! I would have the right soap, I would have the right car, on and on!

Boycotting products doesn't lead people to the LORD...walking with Him, serving Him, proclaiming Him with your life DOES! Satan is not stupid...you can boycott until all you own is your Bible; he'll find other ways. The ONLY way to defend against his tactics is to reach out with the love of Christ, and lead people to Him. Besides I'm pretty sure our LORD said something along the lines of 'Go and make disciples of all nations'?! He didn't say 'Boycott the use of all products from pagans for this is the great commission'.

My post is not meant as a dig to anyone here. I admire the zeal for righteousness in not wanting to support porn, drugs, whatever...I don't like that stuff either! But when considering what is more important: researcing for right 'whatever' or serving our LORD...I'll take serving our Lord.

BTW...I own a Plymouth. hehehe...sorry I couldn't resist!

I don't know if I'd choose the word angry. No I don't like to hear that GM peddles in porn; no more than I liked hearing about Disney & porn. I would be no more distressed if GM was pandering cocaine than I am about thier involvement with porn. The reason I say this is because I am not naive about Satan's agenda. Tell me, do you really expect any less from this world? I don't.

If you want to make a stand against porn (because I'm not saying that you shouldn't), and you have the time to look into it...then find all the companies that support porn. Then boycott them all. But don't go around touting that you boycotted GM, but still buy Disney movies...whatever (this was a hypothetical; I'm not accusing you of buying Disney movies!)

The hypocrite thing is not something I made up. It is echoed by non-believers who know more about who's pandering what than we do. They are the ones who say we are hypocrites because we won't buy a product because of this evil, but yet we buy another product despite what the company is involved in...simply because we need or want that product. They see that as hypocrisy.

I really think that as long as you aren't directly purchasing porn, drugs, etc. then the 'blood' is off your hands. What those companies do with thier profits will be exposed in the light someday, and they will have to give an account; not you.

And, I'm sorry, I have to agree with a previous poster about the things sacrificed to idols comment. According to scripture all things in and of themselves are not evil; it is the meaning you give to those things that make them evil. Paul ate the meat sacrificed to idols; but it is because he did not recognize the meat as such. For Paul only acknowledged the one true GOD. Sexuality is a god in this day (has been for quite awhile actually). So if you are conviced that a GM car is used to glorify (by funding) porn; then please don't buy one.
Scripture says to let each man be convinced in his own mind...to his Master he stands or falls, but his Master is able to make him stand.

I would never condemn you or anyone else for your convictions. I just ask that you consider you choices prayerfully.

BTW...I'm not offended.
