Terminology that expresses a Biblical doctrine is not the problem ie Trinity. The problem is when people use language to express an idea that is contrary to Biblical theology, ie people finding Jesus-which states that it is a work of man not of God.

BTW, I do read in Hebrew and Greek, speaking is another matter, I was never that good at pronunciation in foreign languages.

    Okay.

Did he find him under a rock? Or in a bowl of cereal? Oh, wait, I know he found him on the internet dancing to cheesy music.

I think it is down right hilarious. People who believe that inspite of their sinful nature, they can find Jesus. We can never find Jesus, Jesus finds us. Read the Bible it is quite clear that Jesus finds the sheep not the sheep finding Jesus.

I am not ridiculing one person specifically, I am ridiculing the idea that a person can "find/decide for Jesus".
Maybe its time you guys change your vocabulary and then more of your people will understand the concept. We Lutherans, along with every other group, do not have the corner on the truth of conversion, but at least our language reflects it being God's work rather than man's work.

Be that as it may, we should still correct those who use decision theology language, because it takes the focus away from Christ and places it on the person.

Actually, you are the brother who, in the immediate context, needs correcting (see the title you gave the thread). So it would not serve any purpose for me to go to a different section of the bulletin board.

I never read him. Heard of him in passing but not much. I spend a fair amount of time in the Bible.
I am going to assume you never read Rms 4, Heb 11. James never claims that he is justified before God by his works, he only claims that you will know he has faith because of his works. How do you expect to be able to do anything for your salvation when all our works are as dirty rags (Isa 64:6), all fall short(Rm 3:23), and when you break one you break all (Jas 2:10).
Sound doctrine and sound language are important for maintaining the focus on Christ not man.

I never said I wasn't happy that the Holy Spirit did his work on the heart of Stephen Baldwin.

You never said you were happy either. Try to hold back the excitement, okay?

I think its wonderful that some of the Hollywood crowd gets saved!! Needs to be more of um getting saved--and more will in the future!! God doesn't draw Himself a circle around Hollywood and tells Himself, "I'll keep out of here if its the last thing I do!"

When I think about this Baldwin fella(his face doesn't even register with me--although the name Alex faintly does!) getting saved--my thoughts immediately goes to Luke's story of Zaccheus over in Jericho. Of course, you know from Primary Sunday School--the story of ole Zac! Climbing up into that Sycamore tree for to see the Lord Jesus slippin' His way through the city that He once leveled like a pancake! Jesus came to Jericho in Joshua's day in judgement over a wicked city whos walls and doors were shut tighter than Fort Knox. Jesus came again for another visit--this time to tear down another wall built around Zaccheus' heart! Zaccheus had done built a wall around his heart--the heart being the rightful dwelling place of God in a person's life--and Jesus wanted in so He just flattened that wall like He did the other one and made Zaccheus's heart His home that day!!

My simple little Southeren Baptist theological point is this--yes, Jesus can still tear down barriers built around folks' heart--He can still do business even with movie actors in Hollywood. But you think about this one--that Baldwin fella whoever he is and whatever he looks like--is saved just the same way that Jesus saves the little ole fella who picks up the garbage cans over at Baldwin's Hollywood "sweet"--by grace through faith!!

But getting back to Baldwin and the Sycamore tree of Jericho!! Folks, you know as well as I do what the vast majority of movie people in Hollywood do and act and feel about the Lord Jesus Christ---what we need to do is this--me and you who are saved, we need to go plant a whole lot more Sycamore trees over in Hollywood and even in the little rink-a-dink cities we ourselves live in!! According to the beginning of the posting above on page one--a Baldwin fella climbed up in a Sycamore tree--for the Lord he wanted to see--and as the Savior passed his way, He looked up in the tree! And He said, "Baldwin! You come down!! For I'm comin' to your house today! I'm comin' to your house today!"(You put those words to the music you remember!!)

    He didn't, that was me.

I'm the one who said he "found Christ" and I wasn't pouring any deep theological meaning into it.

I just assumed that everyone understood that to say somebody "found Christ" was just a colloquialism for becoming a Christian and I had no idea it would upset chemnitz as much as it did.

Sorry, but this whole thread is laughable....oh what does our dear saviour think of our bickering and mud slinging?

Sorry, but whether Jesus found us or we found him...we need to put aside fruitless argumentation. Let's put our energies into praying for the rest of Hollywood.

    Sister Carley33,

I don't see anything laughable in my post above! We just need to plant more Sycamore trees(spiritually, that is!) in Hollywood as well as in all of our "rink-a-dink" cities you and me live in--that's all. Wonderful the fella got saved--don't see the big deal in the spiritual commotion others are spreading--whether he found Jesus or Jesus found him--true is true and saved is saved. Most fellas are still trying to strain at a knat!!

Why am I not surprised to see that coming from somebody who condoned a mockery of the Lord's Supper.

This lack of concern is why there are so many heterodox and heretical church bodies in existance. Satan enjoys people who don't care enough to be concerned that proper teachings are taught and applied.

When Smokeater use the term "found Jesus" I understood it as a non technical, non theological term and did not find it offensive and am glad to hear of Baldwin's conversion.

Theologically speaking however I agree with Chemnitz and it is not straining at a knat theology for we theologically speaking don't find Jesus because scripture refutes the idea of man seeking after God. It is God who seeks after us and converts us. If we take the statement that "found Jesus" as a technical, theological term (Something I don't think Smokeater was doing by the way) we do make Salvation a work of man and not God. So I don't think the argument is silly but very important if we get technical.

You know other message boards I've been on you have the ability to place anyother user on ignore, so that none of their posts show up when you go and read there. Needless to say I am never surprised by any cruelty, and hatered you pass out on the BB. You speak so badly of a person being saved, why does people being saved bother you so much? I think only satan hates when people are saved. Maybe you need to learn some scripture, you seem to be greatly lacking in things like fruit of the spirit, I mean this kinds of attitueds are not christian. You seem to be constantly giving me cruddy attitudes, no matter what thread we are posting on. I guess I'll try to stick to baptist only forums from now on, and stay away from the likes of you.

Man is involved in the process of being saved. I am saying it this way and please don't put any words in my mouth or jump to any conclusions.

    Man is sinner
    Jesus came to earth sinless.
Jesus died on the cross to make it possible for the sins that we could not pay the debt for could be paid through His saving grace.
We become Christians when we accept Jesus' sacrifice, accept that He died for us, Accept the love offering of forgiveness and love, accept that we could not save ourselves, only a pure payment could do it.

The acceptance is man's part. God can send witnesses to us, send messages through daily events, general revelation, special revelation, the list goes on. What it comes down to is are we willing to surrender our lives to Him. If we do not surrender our life then we are not saved. God gives us a choice to follow or to stray.

I pray that Mr. Baldwin did surrender his life to Christ, and that he will be an effective witness.

Just because a person disagrees doesn't mean they displaying an unchristian attitude.

Maybe you should avoid all threads if ad hoc attacks are all you are capable of doing.

It is relevant because a person who is so lax, that they would support somebody who is making a mockery of something so special as Holy Communion, is very likely to be lax in their teachings.

My friend, help your brethren. Train, admonish with patience and love. Bear with one another.

I believe it is your tone & demeanor. Your're all uptight......loosen up. Remember, milk for the chillin and meat for the adults!

    Scott asks:
Was this how the apostle Paul was saved? Peter, Matthew? God called; they followed. The creator proclaims and it is done.

If one can just walk away from the faith, was he ever saved. The parable of the soils refutes this idea. Salvifically speaking, if one can choose to follow or stray off the path that God ordains, then who is actually saving who? If this were the biblical case, men would be responsible for their salvation; it would be a work.

    Food for thought.........

    Scott,
John 3:16 "...for whosever believes" not whoever God forces to accept.

Acts 16:31 "...believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved." Not Jesus saved you and I am twisting you arm till you surrender.

Romans 10:9 "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Not God will put words in your mouth and you say them without contiously accepting or believing them.

I believe the Scriptures support that man does have an active role. They can choose to follow God or not. I know people who accept everything is true about Jesus, but choose to live their life without Him.
Only God can save, but it is conditional on our responce to His call.
