Neither article, as far as I can tell, gives much information about the initial interaction between pastors, though apparently the Raleigh pastor was in favor of the relationship between the two churches and either retired or was fired.

But one difference of the situation between these two churches and Matthew 18:15-17 is that the Matthew passage talks about resolving issues that are private (and kept private, at least initially unless not resolved). The issue between these two churches was it seems, at least by the time the local association got involved, not private but very much out in the open.

    UPDATE

Phillip Bethancourt, high-ranking bureaucrat in Russell Moore's ERLC, twittered yesterday from a meeting of the Executive Committee (EC) of the SBC:

    2:25 PM • Feb. 19, 2019
"Major news: The SBC Executive Committee unanimously approved the following amended language to be added to Article 3 of the SBC Constitution to specifically address...racism as grounds for disfellowshipping a church from the SBC."

Yesterday, the Executive Committee (EC) of the SBC unanimously recommended language be inserted the SBC Constitution to specifically exclude churches deemed to be bigoted:

Baptist Press • SBC Executive Committee • live updates from Nashville

"3:25 p.m. -- The EC adopted a recommendation that the SBC Constitution be amended to deem a church not 'in friendly cooperation with the Convention' if it has 'acted to affirm, approve, or endorse discriminatory behavior on the basis of ethnicity.'"

I just went to The Potter’s House website and found this...

    God
There is one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in three manifestations: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

    That’s Modalism.

    But then there’s this...

    Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross, the complete and final sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He is now our High Priest and Advocate.

That’s what Trinitarians believe. So, their view of God is muddied, imo.

I guess the SBC will soon be like UMC and Church of God. They will have regional overseers that dictate to the churches what they can do. The SBC is going to He'll in a hand basket.
