BAPTIST INITIATIVE SEEKS TO HELP GAYS BECOME HETEROSEXUAL
(Phoenix-AP) -- The Southern Baptist Convention has
launched a campaign to deliver people from homosexuality through
    friendship and faith in Jesus.
At the denomination's annual meeting, which wrapped up last
night, leaders asked their 42-thousand churches to reach out
    compassionately to gays.
Richard Land -- who heads the Southern Baptists' public
policy arm -- said, "Homosexuals can find freedom from this
    sinful, destructive lifestyle."
He also said the greatest threat to American Christianity
isn't from Islam but from an idolatry that "promises salvation
    through sexual fulfillment."
The presentation included testimony from a Southern Baptist
pastor who said he realized that his strident criticism of
homosexuals had kept them from coming to him for help.

Friendship and Faith in Jesus certainley are important.

I wonder if the SBC has a specific programe to help people that are Gay?

I have seen a few times in the Pentecostal church people called up to the altar and given deliverence ministry. And that is the cure for the given problem. Yet I think that for a number of problems that people come to God with, much Prayer, Counselling and Genuine Friendship is needed.

I read the article in my local newspaper but I never read where it was said(as the headline states) that homosexuals had to become heterosexuals. They do not have to become heterosexuals, but simply non-practicing homosexuals. This is the same situation for unmarried heterosexuals, they must be non-practicing heterosexuals. The only moral sexual relation is within the confines of heterosexual marriage. Outside of this there can be no sexual relations regardless of orientation.

Will they be doing this in the same manner in which they went out determined to save all the Mormons a few years ago?

Probably not quite the same manner; most of the Mormons are already straight.

Why do y'all constantly belittle Christians who want to help sinners. You belittle them if they want to help and you belittle them if they don't want to help. You belittle their methods, motives, and results. If good, solid, intelligent, caring, loving Christians don't change their minds about a subject about which the truth has been known and acknowledged for thousands of years, then suddenly THEY/WE are no longer good, solid, intelligent, loving Christians but bad, weak, stupid, mean spirited hypocrites. Our position was VERY respectable and we haven't changed our minds, so, what happened? Do you actually believe that YOU have become enlightened while the rest of Chritianity has remained in the dark (unenlightened) ages?

If the SBC had been trying to help drunks, drug addicts, those with STD's, or cleptomaniacs, you MAY have applauded them, so, why is THIS particular sin something you have chosen to defend?

I'm not defending any particular sin.

A few years ago, the SBC decided to ride into Salt Lake City on their high horses, carrying the attitude of "we're gonna convert those godless Mormons whether they like it or not". You don't shove God's word down someone's throat and expect them to accept Christ. It doesn't work that way.

I'm just wondering if they are going to use the same tactics with the homosexuals, or are they going to show Christ's love and compassion and stay away from the hellfire and condemnation approach that could backfire on them.
